I got this to replace an older Bean sportsman's briefcase that served me well for many years. It had several organizer pockets in secure locations inside the bag, had an interior padded laptop sleeve, and handy outside zippered compartments for keys, etc. Eventually it died after hard use. Unfortunately this new Bean incarnation is far inferior to the former product and indeed far inferior to competing products. The interior is one big compartment with no divisions and no laptop sleeve. No padding. Nothing. I suppose I could use it to pack a weekends worth of clothes but as a laptop carrier it fails. A laptop would knock around inside damaging itself and anything else in the bag. The outer organizers are under a flap and thus not entirely secure (from things falling out for example). The construction is also inferior to the older model. The cargo spaces are poorly designed, being too big to hold electronics securely. Poor design, poor construction, high price...not what I expect from Bean.

I usually don't bother writing reviews; if it works, fine. But all of that changed today. Winter arrived to the Tri-State area this morning, but it still seemed like fall to me. As I was running across the street, darting in front of traffic stopped at a light, I thought I could jump over the puddle at the cross-walk. I had forgotten that freezing temperatures meant ice. I slid right into a giant puddle, landing on my backside, ending up half submerged in water. I was soaking wet, but I noticed that the LLBean briefcase I was carrying, the water seamed to roll right off. I had a book and some important papers inside the briefcase and thought for certain that they would be thoroughly soaked, since the briefcase went into the puddle with me. When I returned home, I was amazed to find that nothing on the inside of the briefcase was wet, not even the papers in the back of the briefcase, which is enclosed with velcro. I was amazed and could not understand how this could be so. Later, when I arrived at my office, I found that the small front pockets did get wet, so much so that I had to turn the briefcase upside-down to empty the water, but still the items in the inner recesses of the bag were perfectly dry. Amazing.
This made me realize, as much as I like this bag, this is more than a merely functional item, this is truly a great bag, worthy of a review. Thank you, LLBean, for making such a high quality item! Great purchase. I highly recommend this bag. Don't forget the monogram.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Matt76 Good Product But.....
I really enjoyed this bag, and it works well carrying work papers or even a computer. However, the metal piece on the strap broke and
the outside is starting to show wear and tear after a couple years. I do recommend this product, I just wish it was more durable.

I have owned a number of these briefcases, and the only reason that I have had to replace them is that one of the circular parts on the briefcase where the carrying strap attaches to the case has broken. If this weak link was reinforced, I would not hesitate to give the briefcase a five-star rating.

I ordered this bag to replace one I've been using for several years.
It's great except for one problem - the shoulder strap is much shorter and rather uncomfortable

Rated 1 out of 5 by KBOAK Not your typical LL Bean
I have been a fan of LL Bean products for a number of years, and my disappointment with this product isn't going to change that. However, I thought I should take the time to review this product to assist others that are in the market for a work bag/briefcase and are considering this one.
The bag looks really nice on the website. It appears to be capable of holding all traditional work related paraphernalia including a laptop, tablet and documents that most people carry. Some reviews here seem to indicate that it could also double up as an overnighter. My humble opinion deviates from all of that.
First of all, I have seen much better bags at Ben Thanh market in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, the country where this bag is also made, except for a fraction of the price. I realize that price isn't top priority when you're looking for a good bag that lasts a while - quality and a score of other factors are. The 'cheap' feel to this bag takes away all the conventional LL Bean feel that we're familiar with. The fabric is different from the soft nylon that such bags were made from in the past. It is now coated with something that has that classic, cheap stickiness to it. The insides are rather Spartan, with the absence of a compartment in the man section. I have a LL Bean Messenger from about 15 years ago, and the fabric in it still looks new. I am not sure which cost-cutting maverick has selected this recent fabric and taken away what used to make the bag look good and functional at the same time.
The zippers are not easy to use - they should've lubricated it before shipment. I didn't keep the bag long enough to check if it'd move freely upon use.
The back pocket is thoroughly useless for storage if you plan on mounting the bag on to your luggage. The Velcro that has to be released in order to slip the pocket over your carry-on luggage handle is the most tenacious piece of Velcro I have ever come across. One of the reviewers indicated that it damaged when trying to release it - I totally believe that possibility!
There's no life to this bag partly due to the fabric quality. Unless it is filled with a heavy laptop, it'll readily fall over.
The lack of dividers inside the main compartment has been debated by several reviewers here. This is a major flaw in design and unless you want to dump everything that's work related and hope the happy medley inside stays independently safe without getting into a scratch fight with the other commodity! Not to mention the unimaginable battle when taking your computer and tablet in and out at airport checkpoints and putting it back with the rest of its original occupants still inside......
I may have forgotten to mention - I returned the bag within 15 minutes of its delivery. Note: If you're a Canadian customer like I am - you have to pay for shipping it back - about $ 12.00.
Meanwhile, I had to get my old and beat-up, but still functional LL Bean from the basement and continue using it until I find a real bag to replace it with!

This bag is ideal to carry medications, tablet, charging cables etc when you are traveling. It expands more than most that are available and my 15" laptop will also fit without any problem.

Was so pleased with the briefcase that I promptly bought two for my two sons who are CPA's. I am a college clinical instructor and I have lots to carry - easily and stylishly accomodates it all.
Go ahead and buy it!
