Unbearably scratchy ! Hips, tummy, and butt area is HUGE. I ordered M because I wear size 10, but there was so much fabric bunched under my pants I couldn't fasten them. Would never recommend these to anyone!!!! So what if they are made in America? Is this all the better we can do?

I ordered these hoping that they would not be typical scratchy wool, but they most certainly are. I could not bear to have them on for even a minute, my sensitive skin could not tolerate it, the wool scratchiness went right through the cotton layer. Really too bad because they are very nicely constructed, fit well, and were definitely VERY warm and hefty. I certainly wish that LLBean would carry a 100% cotton version of long underwear for those of us who cannot tolerate synthetics or wool. Silk just does not hold up for heavy wear, nor is it as warm.

I'm 5'9" and 140lb's - I ordered a large - if I'm lucky, they might fit the child next door. This is the first item I've ordered from L.L. Bean that disappointed me so much, I'm making the effort to warn you

Rated 5 out of 5 by zippolady Great item!
This is not the first time I have bought this item, and I needed a new pair. They won't win a beauty contest, but they sure are comfortable and warm.. Now I can look forward to winter.

I without a doubt love them. I am cold all winter and I live in Sacramento where we don't have snow, but the wind off the Sierra Nevada is cold. We go over the mountains to Reno to see family so need to be warm traveling. I can't wear wool next to my skin so I love these. I get another pair each year. Unlike others I have broad shoulders, no bust and wide hips. . So the large bottom is wonderful for me. My bottom clothing is larger because I have a pouch so have to have the room for expansion.

Rated 3 out of 5 by FLshopLLBean hard to wear layered
As many of the reviewers state, the hips and butt are huge compared to the rest of the pants. I ordered an x-small and the legs fit nicely in width but are very short. If you were considering wearing them layered, you'd have to be wearing something with plenty of room. I could fit 3 of myself in the hips and butt portion. It's also the large butt area that helps them almost reach my ankles. It hangs to my knees :) I am keeping them to wear as pajama pants or under flannel pajamas on winter nights, otherwise they'd go back.

Rated 5 out of 5 by LLWest Made in U.S.A.!!!
We were pleasanty surprised to find these were Made in the U.S.! They fit well under ski pants and are just the right amount of layering (slight amount of extra material in the belly area, but still fit well). There are two layers, but they are very smooth and do not bunch up. Very comfortable. And - the best part - MADE IN U.S.A.!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by AnitaB Look great, but don't come in XS
I ordered these in S, as they don't come in XS, hoping they would fit. They don't--definitely too big. What a disappointment.
The quality looks excellent. I like the cotton inner and wool cotton outer. Not too bulky. Would be perfect for outdoor cold weather.

These are not pants. But they are long underwear. They sure kept me warm!! They do run large .. I suggest "2" sizes smaller. I also suggest LL BEAN having them available in black.
P.s. how about those lamb's wool plus size sweaters in plain colors too. The ones LL BEAN has available in black and red colors are very warm and so nice to wear.
