I've had the LLBean Flying Tiger Leather Jackets before. They've always been very warm and flattering on me, a tall, thin guy. Still tall, still thin, but the fit is very different with this recent purchase: much broader in the shoulders and strangely narrow around the waist. I'm not thrilled with either the look or feel of that, but it's still its warm self, this time with a protective leather flap covering the front zipper, which I could do without, but it hasn't bothered me yet and should help in the cold should you need it. (I haven't needed it in the previous versions.)

Overall I'm happy with the jacket. It will keep you nice and warm in very cold weather. The one issue I have with it is the design and construction of the pockets. The membrane - yes, it is that thin - between the cargo pockets and the handwarmer pockets is so flimsy, that I don't keep anything in the cargo pockets, rendering them useless for me. With my previous bomber jacket, I kept a spare car key in one of the cargo pockets. If I tried that with this jacket, it would rip through the membrane in a very short time frame. If the panel between the cargo and handwarmer pockets were constructed of something more substantial, it would be very helpful. I think for a $400 jacket, having durably useful cargo pockets is reasonable.

I don't think you can do any better then LL Bean.

Rated 3 out of 5 by SDMan Runs Really Small
Disappointed in the Flying Tiger Jacket. This jacket runs really small. Quality other than the collar appears quite good. The mutton collar appears as an afterthought and is not up to the same quality standards as the rest of the coat.
Would offer in a larger size and replace the collar to improve this offering.
Ultimately this coat does not measure up to Bean's usually impeccable standards. Disappointed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by angeldog1 Shopping for my 4th bomber jacket from LL Bean
This is about the only coat I have worn since I turned 30 and purchased my first fleece lined bomber jacket from LL Bean. I am now in my 60's and my jackets have kept up with me during the entire time. And its not that the leather wears out, the cloth in the pockets and around the wrists eventually do. Thats to be expected when they are practically all you wear from November to March every winter for 10 years per jacket. Even then I keep the "newest" old one for work in the yard and use the other one for going out, to work, or to the store. They are a little expensive initially, but for warmth, durability, and just great looks (I get comments all the time about where I got my coat) it more than pays for itself.

I returned this jacket as it runs small and didn't fit me well. I had ordered an XXL. I am 5'11'' and 210lbs. I also didn't like the fact that you can't remove the sherpa collar as it's permanently attached. The older ones could have the collar removed. It's a very nice jacket but just not right for me.

Rated 4 out of 5 by AZazel Great but not Perfect.
I purchased this item [the dark brown version] for a great price at the LL Bean outlet in Nashua, NH. I can sadly only give it 4 stars because of the 3 piece back and shoulder area. True versions of this style have a one piece back, not 3 smaller pieces made into the back. This does detract from the jacket BUT make no mistake, even with this flaw the jacket is great! It fits good, is super warm. The shell and lining are of a good quality and the seams, stitching and zipper all line up with no flaws or faults. I would be very hard pressed to find anything close to this jacket for the price I paid. I expect many years of use from this and if my previous LL Bean purchases are any indication it will probably outlast me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by MarkinNVA Absolutely love this coat!
I absolutely love this coat! It is the warmest and most comfortable coat I have ever owned or worn--ever. I orginally ordered an XL as I usually where XL sized products. XL in this coat was monster size--huge. I exchanged for a large and while it fits snug, it is the proper fit for this style of coat--perfect for me. I wear 44 regular sport coats and suits. I have received several compliments from complete strangers. Aside from the lamb's wool that is so soft and comforting, I really like the synthetic fur lined collar. It creates a very comfortable feel on the neck. This is my favorite winter coat!

The best purchase I have ever made with L.L.Bean. I am so warm in this jacket in the mountains of Colorado.
