I have been looking for a heavy weight warm leather bomber jacket that didn't have a lot of old military insignias all over the front and back of the jacket. This jacket fit the bill exactly!
It is very warm, has a very strong zipper, looks great feels even better and best of all was priced below my expectations.
I would recommend this jacket to anyone looking for a heavy weight extra warm jacket. It also looks great on

The Flying Tiger Wool Insulated Jacket is just what I was looking for and the quality was what I expected from LLBean. The real shearling collar (not synthetic) is warm and comfortable. The Merino wool lining does not itch either. Very nice and warm jacket. As the previous reviews indicated the jacket ran a little small and I was on the boarder with the size charts, I spoke to a LLBean rep and she recommended the large - it fit perfectly. Not too tight and not too roomy either. Wears nicely in a vehicle without bunching up. I highly recommend this jacket.

an excellent jacket for driving! this is one of the warmest jackets that I own! the wool-lining is very soft and holds body heat well and the wool collar really keeps your neck and face warm.when the school bus finally warms-up inside I just un-zip the jacket and it does not get in the way.when I am out walking in the morning,i keep my hands in the side pockets with the zipper down and the storm flap over the zipper let out just enough heat to stay comfortable.the shoulders of the jacket have plenty of room for reaching and stretching.very soft leather.the jacket sizes are for u.s.a. sizes not Asian. I am 6 ft.-190 lbs. large fits perfect!

This is a nice coat. It reflects the high quality that L.L.Bean is known for.
However, I have a previous version of this coat that I like much better. Why? They have changed a few things on the updated version, in my opinion, not for the better. The collar is a different material. The cut is different, it comes up much higher on my neck, very uncomfortable when I was in my car driving.
My old Flying Tiger Jacket is 20 years old, has held up fairly well, it needs a few repairs (which L.L.Bean said they would do). I thought I would give the update a try.
My question to the folks at L.L. Bean -- why fix it if it's not broke? Several people saw me in my old coat and then in the new one. Unanimous consensus, old Flying Tiger Jacket wins over the new version.
Bottom line, I'm going to return this new one and have the old one repaired.

Now I just hope this winter in the North East gets cold enough for me to wear it :)

The coat fit exactly the way a medium coat normally fits me. The sleeves are of the appropriate length and the gathered cuffs keep the cold air out. The leather is just the right blend between stiff and supple. This coat is heavy! Feels like great quality. I got the "weathered" brown exterior with lamb wool interior and brown fur collar. I could not be any happier with the fit, finish, and overall quality and style. I will wear this coat until I wear it out! I am certain that will be a long time from now. After wearing it for about two weeks I am starting to "break" it in. Fantastic coat!!

Warmest jacket I've ever owned. Fits well and looks great. Fur collar keeps your neck warm, and the jacket zips up high enough to keep out the wind on all but the worst days.

I've had the LLBean Flying Tiger Leather Jackets before. They've always been very warm and flattering on me, a tall, thin guy. Still tall, still thin, but the fit is very different with this recent purchase: much broader in the shoulders and strangely narrow around the waist. I'm not thrilled with either the look or feel of that, but it's still its warm self, this time with a protective leather flap covering the front zipper, which I could do without, but it hasn't bothered me yet and should help in the cold should you need it. (I haven't needed it in the previous versions.)

Overall I'm happy with the jacket. It will keep you nice and warm in very cold weather. The one issue I have with it is the design and construction of the pockets. The membrane - yes, it is that thin - between the cargo pockets and the handwarmer pockets is so flimsy, that I don't keep anything in the cargo pockets, rendering them useless for me. With my previous bomber jacket, I kept a spare car key in one of the cargo pockets. If I tried that with this jacket, it would rip through the membrane in a very short time frame. If the panel between the cargo and handwarmer pockets were constructed of something more substantial, it would be very helpful. I think for a $400 jacket, having durably useful cargo pockets is reasonable.
