Rated 5 out of 5áby TDF52 Excellent A2 Replica
This was a very hard decision to me as I have been wearing an authentic A-2 flight jacket like this for over 40 years and it was time to replace it. I could have paid $600 for another truly authentic replica, but after all these years I decided I wanted some slight updates for my comfort and convenience. I chose LL Bean over the dozens of makers because I trust them, and the price was very reasonable.
I am very happy with my decision. My new replacement is warmer with the thinsulate lining, much more comfortable with a cut that provides more ease of movement than the US Army Air Corps provided, softer in goatskin than the original stiff horsehide, and with a wonderful bonus of three extra pockets!
The materials and workmanship are excellent in every regard. My only complaint is that the collar had been folded in half horizontally when packaged, so out of the box it had a high-collared awkward-looking lie. I have been working the leather with my hands for a while to get it to fold where it is supposed to. It will take some time to overcome this. Small issue. Great jacket.

Although I have not had the opportunity to wear this jacket in the cold weather for which it is designed (going to be in the mid-eighties again today), I have tried it on and it is exactly what I had hoped for. My previous winter jacket was of the same design and also from LL Bean and I wore it until it was past being useful anymore. I'm so glad LL Bean is still selling the same design and now out of goat instead of cowhide (bound to be softer though just as durable).

I have looked long and hard for a winter leather coat. Many are too short in the sleeve length or ride too high at the waist. This coat, however, fits perfectly. The Tall size was just what I needed. The Thinsulate will be warm for winter use.

I have owned an LLBean Flying Tiger jacket [made in USA] for 20+ years, and thoroughly enjoy it. As it is showing plenty of wear by now, I thought it was time to replace it with an LLBean item of the same name. I was wrong. The new jacket does not come close to the old. The fit is altogether different. My old jacket is a size 40, the new jacket was a Med [38-40.] The new jacket is 3 inches longer at the front, a completely different fit, that for me looked and felt unacceptably long. I am 5'7", it may fit a taller person better. Despite being nominally smaller, the jacket was quite a lot bigger than my old one. The leather is not as supple nor is it soft to the touch. It doesn't even have the smell of fine leather. I returned the new one, and will continue wearing my old well worn friend.

If I had reviewed this last year, it would have gotten 5 stars. This year, I am disgusted and depressed. Christmas of 2012, I saved and saved to be able to buy my husband this very expensive coat to replace his beloved leather coat of 20 years. Yesterday, he showed me that after 1.5 winters, the lining was ripped to shreds. If you have the money to throw away $300+ every year, then get this coat. If the thought of flushing $300 down the drain on a massively inferior product sickens you, then do NOT buy this coat.

Rated 2 out of 5áby lvolp Great Jacket with Inferior Lining
This is a great jacket, but it regrettably is made with a flimsy lining which never seems to last more than one season. I sent the first one back after one season and just sent the second back after it's first season. Hopefully the third will be better but quite frankly I have my doubts.

Rated 5 out of 5áby LLBill1 Best Jacket I ever owned--and Just lost it today..
I have worn my LL Bean Flight jacket with the thinsulite all over the world for over 20 years. Am a pilot and am always comparing it to other flight jackets I see. It's always the best. I never cease to be amazed at how much the front pockets securely hold but no matter how much you load em, the jacket never feels bulky or out of shape. They're like Kangaroo pouches. I lost it at San Antonio airport (l think) this morning. Now already halfway to Hartford on AirTran. Reason I'm on site now is to confirm the trusty old thing is still available at LLBean. YESSS! Maybe a higher power is telling me it's finally time for a new one.

Rated 3 out of 5áby phaselock Not what you would think.
The leather looks nothing like what is shown, and the lining is already wearing badly. The jacket has been worn less then ten times. The shiny leather is awful, the pic shows a matte finish. The jacket is well crafted, however, and the fit is good and true to size.

Rated 3 out of 5áby Outdoorsman101 Nice but
I purchased a dark brown coat about 3 seasons ago. When it arrived the leather was very shiny which was a bit of a problem as I had hoped it would be more muted. Even after these three seasons of occasional wear the shine is still strong.
Unfortunately by the second season the lining started to show wearing through at the corners of the collar, sleeves and back seams and Is getting worse this year.

This is the second one I bough and the first was more than 20 years ago. Adding the snaps on the top and bottom is an improvement. The thinsulate lining is quilted now. It was smooth before. We'll see how it holds up. As some other reviews have stated the zipper does rub the neck a bit. Overall an excellent jacket for the price.
