Love my new Flying Tiger jacket, initially ordered one with thinsulate, but I am a big guy it is was bulky on me. I ordered the tall man without insulation and it fits beautifully and the LL Bean rep made it super easy to do mail exchange.

Altho it's fairly stiff, it's still a comfortable fit and looks great, even on me. The bit longer length than earlier versions keeps the bottom of my sweater from showing. My last Flying Tiger jacket was goat hide; very soft and pliable. Not so this one, but I am sure it will soften up over time. I am 5'5", 150 lbs. & the medium fits fine.

I ordered this jacket as a birthday gift for my husband. It fit as expected and is of very good quality. He has received many compliments on its appearance.

Rated 4 out of 5 by brazolargo Great jacket! Hey, LLBean, fix the lousy lining!
Four stars only because of the lining. Five otherwise.
Having looked around a lot, I think these are the best leather flight jackets you can buy. I got mine when a brand-new sheepskin jacket ripped out the first night I had it and I'd jammed my hands in the pockets. This is heavier/tougher leather, and was what I should've gotten in the first place.
This is the second Flying Tiger Jacket that I own. The first is about 20 years old, a thinsulate version, and is still going strong. I wore that one a lot for a lot of years, both in town and out in the field. It's tough as nails. I have worn it in near-zero weather watching night dances at the Zuni pueblo, and been happy and toasty. It's worn great, and I love it dearly. I just put on some weight, and it got too small. Whoops, let's get another; my wife has already taken it over.
This uninsulated one, I bought last year. I don't really need the thinsulate, and LLB sells out of that version pretty early in the season, so was left with the uninsulated one. No complaints. The shell of the jacket seems identical to my old favorite. It's not light leather--it's substantial, and no wind will ever penetrate it. It sheds water pretty well, and for pretty long.
The downside is what everyone says about it. The lining of the jacket is 'way too light, and tears 'way too easily. Where the leather lining protector is sewn at the top of the the inner pocket is already ripping out at the corner, and there's a tear somewhere in the back that seems just to have caught a wrinkle on something. This lining is a lot thinner than on my old jacket, and it's not going to last. There are some holes in the old jacket's lining, but nothing as early or as obvious as what's happening here.
I'm not pounding this jacket very hard at all--wear it to work in an office and on weekends. I'll see how it holds up this winter, and then maybe send it back thanks to LLB's guarantee.
These are probably my favorite jackets. I wish LLB would do better quality control with their manufacturers and fix this lining problem.

Well constructed jacket with excellent lines. Fits well at the waist for a classic look. Pockets just the right size for access in any weather. Leather is soft reflecting quality. My guys love to see this gift under the Christmas tree.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Cityguyboston as advertised
The standard non-weathered leather is as advertised. I returned the weathered leather one as it really did not have the 'old and used' look one would expect from weathered leather. The process just makes the leather look a tad faded and mousey brown. Should you find a better way to get that old and weathered look I will be buying one.

Uninsulated Flying Tiger bomber arrived 10/29/2015 to my work address. Opened box and immediately hit with smell of fine leather.
I had tried the jacket on at the Freeport store and decided to wait until LLB offered a sale. Sale price (-15%), no sales tax and free shipping made jacket affordable.
At the store, I decided that the Medium would be too small. Its listed as a 38/40 but if you're 40+ (like a 40.5 or 41), you'll never get a sweater under the jacket. I looked at the Dark Brown and the weathered. Dark Brown is really dark but Weathered looked strange. Weathered is a uniform color and I'm guessing they dip the leather in a chemical to give it a brownish-tannish color with a slight greenish tinge. Not what I would wear. I'll "weather" it the old fashioned way
Newrly arrived jacket - all seams and zipper OK. Lining is fine. Leather is substantial but soft
I'm glad I bought it

Very retro look especially made with goatskin leather.
Easily fits with sweater underneath for extra warmth yet is great with just a shirt. Like the weathered look.

by chrisjj Lining fraying at the bottom after one year
I bought this item (the uninsulated version) just over a year ago, and while I have been happy with the appearance and comfort, wearing it most days during the winter, I noticed just yesterday that the lining is fraying at the bottom of the jacket with some holes appearing. For sure the lining is obviously low quality and so I'm not surprised this is happening. I will be contacting Customer Service to see if anything can be done about this.
