Rated 3 out of 5 by Ramstein Good fit, but a few things to note...
The shirt looks well made and the fit is almost perfect, but there are a couple of drawbacks. The primary issue I have with it, as others have stated, is the material is itchy. Not a good a choice unless you wear a long sleeve undershirt. The other main drawback is that it has to be dry cleaned. Not a huge deal, but doesn't make for a convenient option.
Otherwise the shirt works well for its intended purpose.

Great price, good fit, but like wool shirts I owned 40 years ago.
Coarse wool, scratchy, that needs to be dry cleaned.
Would rather spend more money and have a more comfortable shirt, that doesn't have to be dry cleaned.
Gave it 3 try's, warm, but not comfortable to me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by GnomeGnome Stop looking and buy this shirt!
I was having second thoughts about getting one after the reviews that said its thin. I don't know what they ended up buying but mine seems as thick as the ones we all bought in the early 70's.
Wore it under a shell opening day deer season this year in Maine, in the rain. No deer, but stayed still and stayed warm under a tree sun up till sundown. The wool windstoper pants helped too!
Day two I tracked 11 deer and ended up with a 200lb buck. I had to take the shirt off for the drag after that blizzard.
Now I'm between hunting and ice fishing season. I love this shirt so much I think I need another! Thanks, Bean!

Rated 5 out of 5 by LongTimeFreeportfan A wonderful classic
I purchased this shirt approximately one month ago. It is the exact classic shirt that I expected. I have a shirt that my father bought at least 25 years ago and they are nearly identical except for a change to the tail (shaped more like a jacket now) and the neat old Bean's Maine Guide Shirt label that Pop's had. (why can't we go back to that!) The weight feels exactly the same. The older shirt is slightly softer, but probably from years of wear. If you plan to wear this as a shirt I suggest a long-sleeve undershirt.

I have one of these shirts that I bought years ago in XXL and it's a great shirt but now they don't make them in XXL anymore. Real sad especially when they make the insulated version in XXL. Makes no sense to me and am very disappointed, not what I expect from LL Bean.

Rated 5 out of 5 by woolie Maine Guide Wool Shirt
I recently purchased the green/dark blue plaid shirt and it is a thick warm wool. I checked with LLB prior to purchase and was told it was 15 oz/yd wool. Exactly what I was looking for, a warm wool shirt.

Rated 1 out of 5 by doowla advertise as 14oz wool, ONLY 8.9oz wool
The fit and finish of product is fine. However, I purchased what I believed was a 14oz wool product as shown on website. Received the guide shirt and compared to another shirt I own, that I know is made with 11.5 oz wool. Guide shirt is much thinner.
Called and confirmed by corporate, the guide shirt is made with 8.9oz wool. VERY DIFFERENT. NOT THE WEIGHT OF WOOL ADVERTISED

Rated 5 out of 5 by LucyH Very happy with purchase
Not only did my purchase come in the mail soon after I ordered it, but the product itself is exactly what I hoped. I bought this shirt because a friend owned one that I really liked. When this came in the mail I noticed that it's a slightly lighter material that my friend's, but it's better for it. The light material is still warm and comfortable but not as bulky and stiff as my friend's. I'm so glad that I finally made the purchase; I wear it more often than I would have expected!

Rated 5 out of 5 by BostonRobin Such a perfect winter shirt
It's warm and wooly and wonderful. I love this shirt! The cloth is heavy and rugged, really good quality. Perfect for a New England winter.

My granddad always wore one of these shirts, and when I gave one to my brother this year, my dad was envious. I was thrilled when I was able to purchase one for him for Christmas, and Dad was thrilled! He is nearly 88 and walks 2 miles a day, and I know this shirt will keep him warm on the trails here in Georgia. The wool is absolutely beautiful, and I know wearing it brings memories of his own dad back to him. A sweet hug from the past for a dear father. Thank you for continuing to make this handsome shirt. It never goes out of style!
