Over the years, I have purchased 4 wool Maine guide shirts from llbean for my husband. They have always worn like iron and very warm, heavy shirts. My husband would wear one for about 5 years, then I'd order another one. They never wore out. I would usually wear his oldest one around the house in winter. They were made in the USA or Turkey. Just received his new one and he remarked right away, that the material is no where near as heavy as his previous ones. The tag says made in Vietnam. Seems quite flimsy and we hope that it doesn't wear out right away. Not real pleased.

I ordered this shirt to replace a 20yr old wool shirt that unfortunately had worn out. This shirt looks and feels to be as good as the my old shirt. I've worn it on one 3 day winter steelhead fishing trip in PA and around my woods when cutting trees this past weekend. It feels great, is very warm, and doesn't let me sweat up like a cotton shirt. It's a great find at half the price of some other brands. Highly recommend it to all.

Good color choices, fits great, sturdy material, warm, should last a few hunting seasons. I've been looking for a good Maine Guide shirt and finally found one!

Rated 5 out of 5 by AMaskedMan One small flaw from perfection
This shirt is better than advertised. It's warm enough to stand alone in twenty degree weather without layering. The shirt is true to size, not scratchy, freedom of movement is great.
Ah, but the one little flaw. The manufacterer did a poor job on the buttons. Most of the buttons were loose right out of the bag. Needless to say this is not a deal breaker! With little effort the buttons are firmly attached making this shirt a favorite winter shirt for years to come.

I've got the very nice thinner ones you wear tucked into pants instead of other shirts. I have a 17gm wool over-shirt that is beautiful & simply not as warm as this 14gm one. Why? I don't know, it's also from a very top outfit. There is just something about this shirt. This is my second one now. I am 5'10' about 170-175 lbs & previously had the large, what a mistake. I wore it for all those years & still liked it enough to come back for another one, only this time I went with a Medium again in Green/Black, my normal size, since it's a Jac/Shirt anyway right? Man am I in heaven! In a Medium there is still plenty of room for me to wear this as an over-shirt & yet the fit is snugger, keeping the warmth in. And simply...looking better. I think it's time I get a Red/Black also...just because these are that unique & that good, even amongst the world of wool shirts.
Absolutely fantastic. The kind of thing you just need two of. I love this shirt & will always have one in my closet or on my back.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Jbrownbear perfect for hunting
I gave this to my husband for Christmas, as he needed a new wool shirt for hunting. It fit perfectly and it is the first wool shirt that I was able to handle myself without itching, as I am allergic to all wools. As always llbean to the rescue!

Very nice shirt! I really like it. It is great for layering: room for layers underneath and not too bulky to fit under a coat. Construction feels like it will be very durable. Got the green/black color and really like it.
It is a thinner material than I expected (bought on line), but I guess at the price I paid I should have known better - a heavy wool shirt would have cost a lot more. I do consider this shirt a good value for the price.
I'm taking away one star simply because the description makes it sound like this is a heavier shirt than it is, not because of any problem with the shirt. Had I seen it in a store, I probably would have bought it anyway.

My family calls this shirt a coat. They rarely get cold, and this is just the thing to keep the chill off. This is the perfect shirt (coat) for the hunter in your life.
