I have a pair of the white LLBEAN Classic Wooden Adirondack Chairs with side tables from about 15 yrs. ago that were really good until a few years ago. They were left out in the weather year round and only sanded/repainted once. I bought two new chairs and side tables thinking they would be of the same quality. Unfortunately, the newer version is of very poor quality overall, growing mold and some sort of a fungus that looks like shelf mushrooms on them on a regular basis. Is it because of new regulations in the paint used? I left my old chairs out in the elements i.e. rain, snow, heat, sun on a grass lawn and they wore like iron. The newer ones were not on a porch but were stored for the winter and started rotting and pealing after 1 year. Is it because of the wood used now? I'll reluctantly give up the wood for the all-weather but it's hard to believe that LLBEAN would allow this to happen to an ICONIC symbol of the company like the Adirondack Chair. If they can't be made right in wood anymore, then just don't make them.

Rated 1 out of 5áby majaka Two times bad
I purchased 2 of these chairs years ago and they had dry rot after a couple of years even though they were out only six months of the year. I returned them in 2010 and was assured this not the norm and they replaced them. The new chairs rotted within 3 years. NOT what I expect from LL Bean products.

This is a very attractive, comfortable chair that is well-constructed. It folds up for easy storage. A great buy!

Sort of a good news - bad news story:
The bad news - I purchased many different items from the Adirondack line - including these chairs, reclining chairs, foot stools and two types of tables in the natural finish. Almost immediately the finish wore off in a rain storm and within a few weeks of delivery the product looked old, worn and stained. So I'd recommend you stay away from the natural finish.
The good news - I returned all the products to my local store this weekend and was treated wonderfully. Two people helped me unload my car, while another two helped do the exchange and reorder.
I hope the red finish works better than the natural did, but am very reassured that if I have a problem - LL Bean will make things right. The bottom line is that every once in a while a product fails, so its great to purchase from a great organization that provides such exceptional service.
I'll let you know how the red finish works out.

While the chair is comfy and easy to assemble, having purchased 5 of these chairs just over a month ago for our sunny deck, they are all getting black mold on them....and have become noticeably faded.
The last project I needed for the fall was to have to sand them down and re-varnish them....

Love the chairs, but feel there is a problem with the wooden pegs that keep the chair from folding. They don't stay put and keep coming out. Could be dangerous .

Rated 3 out of 5áby frankreviewer A little uncomfortable
The Adirondack chairs took some time to become available. They were not difficult to assemble (takes 2 people) and look nice. They are not really all that comfortable however (we're considering cushions). We've never had this type of chair before--maybe they all feel this way.

Rated 3 out of 5áby canno7371 Some problems with paint
First of all, I would have to qualify my statement that I would not recommend this item to a friend. I might. My problem is not with the workmanship of this chair, it is with the paint. Within a week's time, a small area of paint on the leg of the chair peeled off. This week I noticed a spot on the very top point of the chair back that may be rotting. The paint is no longer there. I purchased a wonderful Adirondack chair cover that I try to put on before it rains but I still have areas on the chair that are peeling. The chair is less than 2 months old! I worry about just how long this chair will last. I guess I need to see what I can seal it with. I had hoped that it would have arrived very well sealed. I love LL Bean but I was disappointed in this product.

I love L.L. Bean and it's products. I have been a faithful customer for over thirty years. The first item I have not been completely satisfied with is the adirondack chairs. I have four of them. Last spring 2012 we got them out of storage and found one had rotted. Last fall when we were putting them away we found another board on a chair had also rotted. Then, this spring 2013, when we got them out to use we found the third chair had a rotten piece of wood. All different places on the chair but all had rotted. Of course, L.L. Bean is wonderful about replacing the chairs. But, it isn't easy putting the chairs together, using them three months then having to take them apart, boxing them up and send back to L.L. Bean. Then, they will send us a replacement and we have to put that chair together. These chairs sit on our patio not ground. We store them from Labor Day to Memorial Day hanging up off the ground in a building. Why we have had so much trouble with them I don't know. I love the chairs and hope this will help clear up any future problems.
