Rated 5 out of 5 by Underwayistheonlyway True Quality Product
I have been purchasing/wearing this shirts for many years. They are very comfortable with a long tail that stays put. There are a wonderful three season shirt. They are color fast and nearly wrinkle free. I have yet to lose a button or have a elbow wear out. They are my favorite shirt. In the spring I wear them as an outer shirt/jacket over a lighter weight shirt. My wife occasionally wears one as a night shirt on a cold winters night. To sum this up. It is a quality product that does what it promises. It will not disappoint.

Rated 5 out of 5 by vladimir928 two same size different color different fit
I bought two of these really nice shirts but one of them is white and black and the other one is gray. The gray one seems to be slightly larger that the checker black and white one? do they shrink at all when you wash them?

Rated 5 out of 5 by ArtGirl999 Excellent Chamois Shirt
I bought the Chili color chamois shirt in a small since I am a woman. I called to make sure the chest measurement was ok...
Now I have washed it once and it fits just fine, with one exception.
I will open the two side seams to accommodate for a roomier fit around the hips. I am looking forward to wearing this shirt when fall weather begins to cool the morning and evenings.

by DakotaExpat Long tradition, yet still hip, practical, perfect!
Any comment from me on this shirt is bound to be a love song -- I've been wearing this version or its near antecedents since the early 1980s. Before that I was a kid who awed at my tough Great Plains grandfathers & uncles wearing these shirts for 3 seasons of chores and hunting in western Dakota -- getting anything at all from L.L. Bean meant an investment in rugged quality and proud craft. So buying my first Chamois Cloth Shirt 36 years ago was like a rite of passage. Even today, when I buy this shirt because it works so well for my needs, I'm doing it with a nod to these family connections and associations that made my childhood memories mysterious & fun.
But I wouldn't do it if the shirt weren't the finest one out there. I still wear it in Dakota winters when visiting home, in Michigan winters which aren't quite as challenging but still the real thing, and of course in Fall & Spring when the shirt might serve either as shirt or jacket to keep the edge off a cold wind. I wear it hiking and doing my research field work in places as removed as the Dakota Badlands, the Rockies & Cascades, and the high Himalaya of Nepal. The shirt has never failed me for sure comfort (cut generous for ease of movement) whether chopping wood, pulling fencing, or maneuvering a scree slope with a loaded pack. It also serves for sitting around a fire, walking my two miles to the office on a winter day, or writing at my desk while the snow blows across my window. Soft and gentle on the skin and holding in the warmth. Wonderful!
It's generous, yes, but the sizing is true & I probably like a little extra room so I can swing my arms or twist my torso down a slope -- like the long tails, too, that keep it tucked in when I'm doing all that twisting. So for me, the XL in the Tall works real well (I'm 6'3" & weight 195 lbs, sort of lanky build, long arms, if that gives you an idea). I could, if I didn't want all that range of motion get by with an XL Regular sizing, or maybe even a Large in the Tall, but my choice of sizing gives me lots of versatility & I'll still wear it to lecture at the university, maybe with a vest over it to look respectable.
It's a shirt that, when people see it, they notice it and want it. I've given many of these away to friends and colleagues in far-flung places like Nepal (and for many, my arrival will always include one as a gift). It has kept me warm and professional for so many years that when new colleagues are sent to meet me, they're told I'll be easy to find as the blonde guy wearing a navy blue LL Bean shirt in the crowd.
These shirts are durable. I've had more than a couple of them last me years of steady use (though I tend to roll up my sleeves so have no problem with elbow wear). They are warm (I wear them on the coldest days, with layering of course, but that chamois cloth just feels comforting). They are versatile (trail, woodpile, office, lecture hall). And they never cease to attract favorable comment.
But in the end, who wouldn't want to be a part of a family tradition. I'll always have one in my closet for ready wear.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Crowpoint Great shirt one flaw
This shirt is quality no doubt but the one thing that's a big problem is there needs to be one more button sewed on to the bottom of this shirt. If you look at the image of the guy modeling this shirt on this site you can see this right away. Great shirt otherwise just needs more buttons

These shirts are great except for one thing. The elbows wear out way too fast. My husband really likes the shirt; I've gotten him three or four. However, on every shirt the elbows wear out within a few months. Too bad this shirt doesn't have reinforced sleeves. Then it would be five stars.

A wonderful shirt, but never worn because it is just so hot and the flap pockets are for looks only and a hassel.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Thearchitecturestudent Sleeve torn after 7 months. Very comfortable.
I bought the shirt in September. Fits great. Extremely comfortable. Fits loose. I wear a small and have a 38" chest. My favorite shirt. I was so sad when I took it out of the wash and noticed a 1" hole in the sleeve.

Rated 5 out of 5 by lovethehub Beautiful thick shirt
This is a gorgeous, high quality shirt. It's of a heavy weight, well made and washes and dries easily. My husband is picky but he keeps reaching for it, which speaks for itself. I loved the cream and black buffalo check and my only regret is that the men's small sold out, or I'd buy one for myself. Maybe (hopefully) I'll get lucky this fall. Can't go wrong with this shirt.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Westchestercasual Very Disappointed
I have worn and loved these chamois shirts for many years. There is no warmer, more comfortable shirt. Now all of a sudden, LL Bean has decided that my arms have grown 3 inches. The sleeves are nearly 3 inches longer than on all my other chamois shirts, and not wearable. I thought perhaps it was a bad shirt, or just the plaid, so i returned it and got a solid color. But it was exactly the same -- sleeves nearly 3 inches longer than all my old shirts. Very disappointed that i can not count on LL Bean sizing on such a standard item that was one of my favorites.
