Rated 5 out of 5áby johnDC Love these Converta-mitts
These are the third pair of this style of "converta-mitts" I've owned, but only the first sold by LLBean. They fit perfectly, not too tight, but close enough for warmth, and the magnetic "snaps" that hold the mitten when not covering your fingers, and especially the fantastic thumb cover, are ideal. Flip the mitten over and it sticks; a basically effortless tug and the magnets disengage. My idea of excellent design. Though the wind doesn't blow through the material as promised, I can't rate them perfect because cold air does leak in if the wind is blowing hard, but I'm talking an ideal, not the reality of manufacture. Maybe if I paid 3 times as much I could get truly windproof, but for the price, these are truly excellent converta-mitts, or as my daughter likes to call them, "glittens".

Purchased these Converta-mitts to use while shooting trap and sporting clays. I was looking for something that could keep my hands warm, yet let me expose my forefinger for better feel and control of the shot gun trigger. I have been using them in temperatures in the 30-40 degree F range. In this temp range, they satisfy my need for warmth and finger freedom. The magnetic hold downs for the mitt portion work well - less bulky than velcro and easier to engage/disengage than velcro. The thumb flaps are less useful to me as there is air leakage through the slit depending on how long your thumb (i.e., your thumb can keep the slit slightly open). A velcro closure by the slit would have been useful in this regard. There are thin anti-slip rubberized strips cross-stitched to the palm of the glove and also the mitt. This makes griping/holding items (rifle/shotgun, in my case) easy.
Color is a chestnut brown - looks charcoal in the picture - I'm OK with the color as my jackets are mostly brown & green. The gloves have the look and feel of fleece for both the exterior & interior (probably because material is fleece!). There is a rubberized material bonded to the interior/exterior fleece panels to block wind - This works very effectively.
I would have liked the cuffs to be an inch or two longer so they could be tucked either into the sleeve of my jacket or do a better job of sitting over my jacket cuffs. As it's currently configured, for my hands, there is some air leakage and slight exposure around my wrists.
The sizing chart for the glove/mitts is spot on. I normally wear a large when it comes to gloves. The product's sizing chart recommended a medium and the fit is good (except for the length of my thumb, the glove's thumb could have been a 1/4" or so longer)
I have found a second use for these converta-mitts. My vehicle doesn't have a steering wheel heater. These glove/mitts keep your hands comfortable, while leaving your fingers free to touch/press buttons until the vehicle interior has warmed up.

Rated 3 out of 5áby julsay Ash color is Brown
From the picture and the name Dark Ash I expected black or a very dark gray. These mitts are BROWN. So disappointed. I do not think the person receiving these as my gift will like them near as well in this color. They look flimsy to me for a $39.95 mitten designed for outdoorsmen. I suspect they will be returned. I usually love my LLBean items...but not this time.

Cheaply made. The magnets to hold mitt part back do not work.

I don't know. Reading previous reviews seemed to infer the glove didn't have a thumb cover. Maybe ll bean asked for a up-dated design. These have separate thumb cover which can also be flipped down to expose thumb.
Seem like they should keep hands warm, with mitt covering, fingers can be kept cozy, or to prevent hands from getting too warm, flip open and continue shoveling or driving while lower hand stays warm.
The warm packed fleece or whatever material is soft, though don't think would respond well to getting soaked.
But maybe be a little resistant to wet dampness of snow.
Still, they are warm, or seem to be. Our cold eastern shore winters have not come yet, demanding gloves. But I'm ready.

These mitts are so much better than a similar pair I bought 10 yrs ago. They are waterproof and windproof. I use them when walking my dog. The thumb cover is particularly useful for doing 2 digit jobs ,like hooking a leash to a collar.
I also like to free up my fingers and thumbs when driving..
Very well made ,no loose stitches , magnets are so much better than Velcro. I would recommend them to anybody who works or just walks outside.

I would have given 5 stars except for the construction of the thumb area: In my opinion the thumb area should have been constructed just like the fingers with an overflap at the slit area. Don't understand why the thumb part does not have a flap to cover the slit like the fingers do and leaves an open hole area on the thumb.... My opinion LLB missed on these. Unless I got defected ones and if so someone please let me know so I can return. Thank you.

Rated 5 out of 5áby Nothome So far - so good
Got these mitts the other day in the middle of a really cold spell. I've worn them out and about for a few hours and find they keep the cold away from my hands quite well. Have yet to dunk them when fishing - ( a previous source of great misery in the winter), but am looking forward to a successful experiment.

Just got to try these gloves while snow blowing last night. Although they kept my hands warm, a few times the mitten top flipped back exposing my fingers. I plan to sew a small piece of Velcro onto the base of the fingers and another piece on the mitten top to keep them closed.

I'm not crazy about the look of these--as others have noted, these are indeed BROWN, not the "Dark Ash" as ordered, and they seem like they were designed by Rube Goldberg. You know, kinda pieced together on the fly for functionality; odd felt-like material; skimpy elastic at the wrist.
But! My husband SWEARS BY THEM. He loves that he can work on his car with the mitten part peeled back, then cover his hand afterward to protect against the cold. And the faux leather across the palm provides a nice grip when shoveling. He says he would definitely wear these in the spring and fall too. So? What do I know. Looks are deceiving!
Next year, LLB: Please offer these in additional colors, maybe thicker WindBloc fleece? Better mitt fastening?--like, some Velcro in addition to the magnet closures? And wider elastic or knit cuff at the wrist? I might even try a pair--make them for women? I bet kids would love them too! Thx
