Mitts are warm, but there are basic flaws in the design. They are too short so your wrists are exposed which isn't helpful, Also the slit in the thumb gaps open so your thumb is never really protected. I took the suggestion of other reviewers and sewed the opening shut.
These are not fashion mitts, so you would expect them to be designed a bit smarter as one usually wears them in cold or inclement weather when you need your hands protected.

These gloves will help to block the wind over the back of the hand and the fingers, as most gloves do, but unless you have the palm of your hand clenched or wrapped around something - like a fishing rod, so that the flap is pressed tightly against the palm of the glove, a cold wind will easily penetrate that opening. I wore these fishing on Maine ponds on cold windy days and found that to be a problem for the hand not holding the rod. I don't know whether it is practical to do so, but having a Velcro strip on the palm of the glove and on the inside of the flap where they meet would help to prevent this. Otherwise, the gloves are as advertised. Select the size as the chart recommends. While I agree with the comments about the thumb flap, that didn't bother me as much as the openness of the flap which is supposed to close over the palm of the hand.

Gloves wonderful..but dark ash is actually decidedly dark brown, not the black or gray I hoped for. So my husband gets this pair, and I await black, gray, or preferably, RED so they're easily found in woods and snow.

Materials and protection in terms of wind and temp is good, but the opening for the thumb causes the thumb to pop out when you'd rather it didn't .

My husband loves these convertible gloves/mittens. They are just perfect for shoveling snow, for riding an ATV, and for deer hunting when it's cold. They fit well and are very warm.

Geocaching here in Maine in the Winter time can be somewhat cumbersome constantly removing your gloves/mittens once you've found the cache in order to sign the paper log. I saw a geocaching buddy with a pair of these mittens and just had to get some for myself. My wife tried to find a pair elsewhere that would fit me but the only ones she found were so small they barely fit her hand. There was no way they'd fit my extra large hands. The Converta-Mitts fit great, keeps my hands/fingers warm and I love the way the mitten portion stays put and doesn't flop down over my fingers when I'm signing the geocaching log.

Rated 1 out of 5áby ashram Made in USA
This item had USA in the description in both the catalog and on the website. The tag inside the gloves indicated it was made in Tiawan. I was very disappointed so I returned them to LLBean.

I bought these for my husband.
Gloves / mitts are nicely made. Love the magnet idea.
I did, however, think that ash was more in the black family, not brown.
The thumb flap is short. Improvement on the lenght of that would give them 5 stars.

Very good quality, funtional mitten gloves. The mitton part covering the fingers folds back easily and stays in place. I wear thin, polyester glove liners underneath so my fingers are not fully exposed with the mitton retracted, and that combination keeps me pretty warm and comfortable but still allows me to do reasonably fine manipulations with my fingers. My only complaint is that the fold-back thumb covers don't overlap quite enough and tend to flip open exposing thumb tips to the cold when you don't need them to. I'm thinking of stitching the thumb flaps so they stay put. Otherwise, they are the same good quality that you expect from LL Bean.

I ordered these flip-mits when I got my mad bomer hat. The hat is terrific but these a just the opposit. They are only really warm in the car. the thumb I guess I'll sew shut because it won't stay on and lets in a lot of cold air. Had great hopes for these but wish I had not thrown out the tags or receipt because I would return them.
Just want to keep my hands warm and still be able to use my fingers on occasion when working my dogs.
