Never mind the guide Orange is far brighter than the picture. which would be fine as this was to be a gardening shirt anyway. The real issue is the fabric. It's about twice as thick as the tropicwear pants. Far too warm for summer wear. Perhaps late fall or very early spring, but I don't get were the "tropic" of this shirt fits in. I think one would roast in it out here in California.

I bought 2 of this shirts when they first came out ,and for the most part there great warm weather shirts to wear to mow ,work in the woods picking berries ect. The material is the best thing light and comfortable my only complaint is the vent in the back it seems a little gimicky and does not seem to let in much air.I would like to see these without the it would be nice

Rated 3 out of 5 by jwarner191 good sun protection but not great style
good sun protection but not great style really says it all. The shirt is baggy and has almost no style. The pockets are too big, but, here in Florida we really need sun protection, so I have several of these shirts. The style police have given me several tickets, but when the sun is burning, you better have one of these. I hope they will taper the shirts and make smaller pockets and consult with some designers. There are other more stylish sun shirts out there but these have a better fabric. Some of the others that might look better, well, they feel like you are wearing a plastic bag. These breathe and you can wear them all day. So, I just bought another one!

The shirt is great. Nice fabric. Right amount of seemingly useful extras like functional pockets, tabs to hang stuff from, Oh my God it even has a Velcro strap thingy. This is a perfect shirt. However, I'm only giving 4 stars because of the "LL Bean" monogram on the front. That's just tacky.

Whether on the Beaverhead in Montana or surf fishing the coast of Florida, these shirts -- yes, I have several -- are the best I have ever worn. Utilitarian, pack well, comfortable, easy wash-and-wear, always look good. Just another fine Bean product.

What an excellent fabric and quality shirt! I bought the long sleeve version in "soft blue" and was hooked from the start. I now own 3 in various colors and am now finding that there are "tropic wear" shorts to go with them! I work on the water and am constantly boating and fishing so this shirt is a must have being how light, comfortable, and breathable the fabric is. The fact that there is sun protection built in is a huge plus for those of us constantly outdoors and especially on the water here in Maine. Nothing better. Thanks again, Beans!

I am thrilled with this shirt. Just before I ordered it I spent half a day at an LAX tournament and I got way too much sun. I have since found this shirt and a matching Tropicwear ball cap. I wore them to another 5 hour long event at a park with limited shade and managed to end up with no sunburn at all thanks to the new shirt and hat.

Shirt fits well. Looks good. Comfortable on a day that varied from slightly chilly to about 80. Only downside was it needed a touch up ironing when it came out of the dryer. It may have been left in too long after the cycle was finished, because the women's version (same fabric content) washed a different time did not need ironing.

Great shirt! It protects my husband from sun while driving, golfing, or on the River. It is cooler than a cotton tee, so he does not mind wearing long sleeves in summer heat and humidity.
This is his third of this shirt. He bought two last year and wanted to add to his collection.

Most times the XL shirts from Bean fit me fine - this one was tight across the shoulders and small/pinching in the armpit area. Other than that I liked the material and design.
