Rated 3 out of 5áby 1sttimewithllbean Hard Leather, Painful to Break In - Beware
Leather is very hard and shiny. I've been trying to break these in for 3 weeks and they still hurt my feet. I've never had to break shoes in for this long before.
The LLbean sizing doesn't allow for European half sizes. This only gave me the option to choose a shoe that was longer than usual and causes chafing on the heel.
The shoe looks good but it is painful to wear.

Great looking shoe and the price is right, but the leather is too stiff and uncomfortable. If you're looking for comfort, pay for a more expensive shoe.

Rated 4 out of 5áby WahooFan2011 Durable Dress Shoe
I bought these around 6 months ago and they have held up much better than my similar dress shoes that cost almost double. I walk/metro to work every day and while the soles are showing signs of wear (as is to be expected), the uppers look great! I would highly recommend to anyone who puts a lot of miles on their dress shoes.
My only complaint is that they don't make these in a brown/light brown option. If they did I wouldn't shop anywhere else for dress shoes! Make it happen LL Bean!

Rated 5 out of 5áby Oldflyer85 Leather soled loafers
I'm 85 and have tripped and fallen many times over the last few years because of loss of leg muscle tone and strength. I finally figured out what was causing my tripping was that present day men's shoes were made with rubber soles because this is the cheapest construction in Asia where they are made. As you get older you have a tendency to shuffle when walking due to the loss of leg strength. I had all my shoes resoled to leather which slides on slippery surfaces like tile or marble . The rubber acts like a brake. When I saw the Bean loafers advertised with leather soles I had to have them, try to buy leather soled shoes. You cannot find leather soled shoes in all of Tucson where I live. I haven't tripped since switching to leather.

The loafer is excellent - typical of the hig quality standards of LL Bean.
My issue with the shoes is that they don't come in my size. I wore a size 12 for years, but now that I'm getting older, the 12 size is too small. At one time LL Bean offered a size 12 1/2 in several shoe types from New Balance walking shoes to the very comfortable Rockport walking shoe.
All of those offering have been discontinued. I ordered a penny loafer in size 13 regular (D. I'm swimming in them. I have to wear a pair of heavy socks just to keep them from slipping off when I walk.
I wish LL Bean would reinstate the 12 1/2 size once more.
