Rated 4 out of 5 by becomingabeanfan Nice jacket, poor online picture
The jacket appears to be well made. However, the color did not match the online image. I ordered the olive one, and the color probably is truer to olive than the picture was, but since I was seeking the shade shown online, I quickly returned the coat, and am waiting for my return to be processed. The sizing was correct; I usually order large for coats and shirts, and even with my longer arms, it fit well. Just not the color I was expecting.

Rated 5 out of 5 by RLM1 Nice Casual Coat
I bought this coat as an after thought. I really did not need a another winter coat, but I had a 20% discount and it seemed like a good deal. Like some other Bean coats, this had some options regarding linings and I selected the one that reportedly takes the rating down to -25 degrees. When the coat arrived, it looked similar to other types of barn coats except in olive khaki color. However, the fabric is softer and more pliable. Picking it up it did not seem like a winter weight coat. I wore the coat down to NYC last week in single digit temperatures and was frankly amazed at how warm it was. If you wear a sweater or other extra layers underneath, you may actually roast. While having a zipper would certainly have made the coat even warmer, I have never felt the least bit cold in it.
The coat is nicely sewn and good quality. So far I am very pleased with it and would not hesitate to recommend it to others. One thing that I like about this coat is that in my mind it is properly sized for a winter coat, which to me means you can wear a layer under it with out pushing into the next size.

Rated 5 out of 5 by coolngruvy My husband loves this coat!!!
My husband is on his 3rd coat. He always goes back and buys this coat. It is made very well. The one he replaces he saves and uses for yard work because it is still in decent shape. The only reason he replaces is because of stains that do not come out. He loves the removable liner, because then you only need one coat for all seasons. There are lots of pockets, that is a must. I am sure he will use this coat for the rest of our midwest winter.

Buttons are way too small. Liner comes out when coat is taken off.

Rated 4 out of 5 by rgeorge Second one of these I have owned
Great coat. I owned one with the wool lining that eventually wore out. This time I ordered the primaloft lining instead of the wool one. My only issue is that when you fold over the cuffs to expose the corduroy, the brown primaloft lining pokes through the sleeve. They should have made the lining about 3/4 of an inch shorter so it didn't show through. Otherwise, it's as good as the last version I have owned for years (which is saying something when most manufacturers have cut costs and quality over time).

The coat fits well. It is lightweight, warm and water repellent. I purchased a size large, which will accommodate a sweater. The coat keep me warm during the recent cold temperatures in the Northeast, which averaged 5 degrees F.

Rated 5 out of 5 by nnbiker Love this coat
I love everything about this coat. It is warm but not bulky. The outer shell does a great job of blocking the wind. The cut is generous enough to wear a heavy sweater or sweatshirt underneath comfortably.

Rated 5 out of 5 by BCWoods Great long-lasting rugged coat.
Purchased as a replacement/newer option to wear in more public venues, after my 12+-yr-old same item was showing some wear.
Exactly the quality I remember and expected. Looking forward to decades more wear. Thank you, L.L. Bean!

Rated 2 out of 5 by CTguy OK, but two years?
I returned this when the middle button popped off after two years. Apparently, they have changed this product and are charging much more, but will only honor my original price paid. I just wanted a straight exchange, but they want me to pay the difference. Since the item I bought does not exist in their current catalogue, they want me to pay the difference of their newer equivalent product.
I'm not sure that really honors the spirit of the lifetime guarantee. Maybe the letter of it, but I think they could meet me halfway here or something.
Some may disagree, but when the main closure is buttons, make sure they are fastened to last. There are no zippers on this. I had this coat for two years, and now the color is no longer current, so ll bean tells me that this item is worth much less than the current equivalent.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Quiche78 New Coat for my husband...just right!
The Original Field Coat with PrimaLoft Liner was the perfect selection as a new coat for my husband. It is stylish enough, but in a rugged kind of way, that he can wear it to meetings or the office when the grey overcoat is too formal.
The liner has come in very handy especially this winter! We did have to exchange up a size though because that liner makes it too tight otherwise.
My husband is NOT a clothes hound and he really likes this jacket. That is saying something - and it's good!
