Rated 2 out of 5 by DaveW64 Not the same quality as I'm used to.
I have had several different Field Coats from both LL Bean and others. The last one that I have bought three years ago fit well but has worn out very quickly. As others have mentioned, all of the buttons had to be resown after about a year. After about two years, the material of the jacket has started to disintegrate around the button holes, elbows and under the collar. This jacket is in rougher shape than my 10 year old, unlined Field Coat and now has been replaced. I would not recommend for everyday wear nor would I expect the quality that you have become accustomed to if you have bought one in the past. Too bad.

LL Bean didn't have my size in the store, but were able to order it for me and send it to my home. Ordered in store on a Sat and received it by that Wed.
The coat fits well and doesn't feel bulky. It seems to be warm and I will put it to the test this winter. The only negative is that it is a button up and not a zipper. However, that isn't a deal breaker.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Truegrits Best combination for driving and walking
Had one of these before and loved it; except it had a zipper and I personally do not like zippers. So I bought a HEAVY down parka complete with a real fur ruff of the hood and gave the barn coat to a local charity. What a mistake! The parka made driving a car dangerous because the field of vision was often blocked. So back to the original field jacket -- nice and warm and easy to drive with AND NO ZIPPER. This coat is light in weight and is easy to wear for driving.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Krazkat Excellent coat BUT...
The buttons were hastily finished, the wrap of thread around at least two of the buttons was unraveling after two wearings. The coat was ordered on 12/15 n backordered till 1/02/15, however it arrived on 12/24! Being handy with a needle n thread I was able to repair the issue. Thus I believe the coat was rushed at the factory.
My husband loves the coat, he is 5'11 n weighs 230 n wears a XXL Tall. This is his second LLBean coat, the first was a barn coat in tan with the thinsulate lining, he used it as a work coat n wore it to death! So much it was washed often n the buttons became brittle and were cracking n breaking off. I called Bean and they replaced all the buttons, I only needed a few. That coat was retired after 5 years n donated after this new one arrived.
I highly recommend all clothing from Bean, quality has never been an issue n this one issue was minor

Rated 5 out of 5 by MrRetired Primaloft field coat
I have owned several field coats, most with the wool lining. The primaloft lining is terrific, very warm but not bulky. I love this coat for snow shoveling and all around winter wear. I have been very satisfied with this product. A warm coat that is comfortable and easy to care for.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Bagelboy Very warm but needs a zipper
This jacket is really warm. My only beef with it is it should have a zipper, and that's why I didn't give it 5 stars. I also had to wait about a month for it to come because it was out of stock- bad pre ordering/buying by LL Bean.
Glad I have it now though.

Rated 4 out of 5 by NJMaine Good coat that can be great w/ some design changes
Bought this coat last year, in saddle, and waited until I got a bit of use out of it before posting a review. I want so much to love this coat, but I only like it, because it has some fundamental design flaws. The biggest problem, and what might've been a dealbreaker for me if I had bought it in-store instead of online, is that it simply does not close well because there are only three usable buttons [the fourth button at the top can't close if you have a scarf on, or anything but a flamingo's neck atop your shoulders]. That means the cold and wind these last few days in below-zero temps hasn't been repelled nearly as well as it could have been with an extra button or two [or way better: a zipper]. The pockets are awkwardly placed. The chest pocket is impractical, and I would trade it in a second for an inside velcroed pocket sewn to the liner. As noted elsewhere, the liner sleeves do indeed poke out if you need to roll up the cuffs [I keep my cuffs down, and they hang a wee bit long, but the tighter of the two cuff buttons mostly mitigates the problem.] It also could really use a hideaway hood.
Now given all these design flaws, it still has considerable upside: It is quite warm with a shirt and sweater beneath it, it is incredibly comfortable, the material is tough yet flexible so you can move with ease, the fabric repels rain and snow easily, it looks fantastic [I've gotten a ton of unsolicited compliments], and it's even roomy enough to wear with a suit jacket underneath, which was a big selling point for me. I wear a 44 regular suit, I'm 5-9, 195, and got this coat in large, which fits me just a bit on the big side. Would love for LL Bean to see these comments and make the design changes suggested here, though--I'd buy that remade coat in a heartbeat!

The Field coat was everything I hoped it would be. It fit my guy very well, he loved the color and the primaloft liner is keeping him warm. He has wanted a Field coat for a long time so thank you for making a quality product that I can be proud to have given as a gift.
