My son loves this coat. So warm that he can wear a light shirt underneath so as not to be to hot in school. Great for his winter campouts as well.

This has to be the most Superior Field Coat in the market. If you want warmth and water resistant, this is the Jacket you have been looking for.
Iam completely satisfied with this purchase and would recommend it to everyone.

this is my second field coat and the outside material is rugged the cheap buttons break and ive only worn it a handful of times, so its hard to stay warm when you cant close it due to cheap plastic buttons, id save my money and buy one that zips

Rated 3 out of 5 by JDMash This is not a "warm to -25 degrees" coat
Nice jacket, comfortable, good cut & sizing (layering is easy - big arms, roomy body). Sleeve lining is a cold polyester material - wish it was flannel/cotton & thicker. Nice enough jacket, but I would not call this a winter coat - not by a long shot. I bought this when I lived in VA and it's barely warm enough for VA's moderate winters. I live in CT now & it definitely is not warm enough for CT cold. The jacket itself is very lightweight. The pockets are not lined & are quite cold - they don't even block the wind. There is no "storm flap" - the wind & cold come right through the openings between the buttons. I would say cold to about 35 degrees is about all this coat is good for if true comfort is what you're looking for. Tolerable comfort - meaning it's cold out & you'll feel it, but it'll be tolerable while leaving you wishing for a more protective, warmer coat - can be expected to about 25 degrees tops. Lined outer pockets, storm flap, a more wind-resistant shell, stand up collar, possibility for a lined hood attachment, larger interior pockets for storing hood, gloves, scarf, PDAs - then this coat might serve more purpose & be a 3-season coat.

Rated 5 out of 5 by gillyb Comfortable, colorful, warm
I had the original field coat with the cotten lining for 18 years!. It was warm, durable and comfortable. So, after 18 years, I decided to replace this coat with a coat I know I could rely on-so I went back to LL Bean to search for the same coat. This time I ordered the field coat with the primaloft lining because it is warmer and instead of the original tan color I ordered the red wine this time-a little more style. It is exactly as described. Warm, roomy and comfortable. On really cold days I can wear a hoodie under the coat for extra warmth and there is still plenty of room to move-not confining at all. I am soc security age and figured I need a warmer coat and based on how long the last LL Bean fieldcoat lasted this will be probably be the last one I buy. Also, when my adult son saw me wearing my new field coat he asked if he have the old one - he is enjoying it now. I was happy to hand it down.

I received this coat on Friday, 11/7/14 and immediately fell in love with it. It was exactly as advertised and very well made. I read through many of the reviews submitted by others and found most complaints to be nit picky or completely off base. Some complained that the liner attachment buttons were too small, at 3/4" I think they're more than adequate. Another complained that the buttons weren't sewn on well enough and would eventually pull through the fabric, and maybe a backing button would solve the problem, time will tell. Still another griped about the inner liner being cut too long and it protruded beyond the end of the sleeves, which on mine is not the case. Liner is very well attached and very warm. Another said the sizing wasn't right and mine was perfect for a 35" sleeve and a 44" chest.
When received it was pretty wrinkled up from packing and shipping but a few minutes time with a steam iron and a pressing cloth made it look perfect! And, BTW, I did the ironing, not my wife, so it couldn't have been too tough. My only complaint, chest pocket is worthless, way too small. I would rate the coat 4.5 overall and would buy again.

A great value and a great field coat. Warm yet breathable and stylish, yet extremely functional. I recommend strongly.

I just moved to Massachusetts from Florida and I needed a warm winter coat. I started looking online at LL Bean. I liked the looks of this field coat. The 100% cotton construction and the PrimaLoft liner sparked my interest, I'm 5' 9", 215 lbs, so I ordered a large regular fit #using the online fit chart#. I received the coat and was impressed with the light weight and quality, but it fit like a shirt; sleeve length was perfect, but it was too tight, could not fit a sweater underneath coat. I drove to the LL Bean factory #retail store# in Freeport Maine, so I could try on different sizes. I found the XL regular fit much better; sleeve length was perfect after I rolled them up and the fit is loose enough to get a sweater underneath. Really like the material, it's soft, wind and water proof. Haven't experienced really cold weather yet, so I can not attest to the advertised -25 deg claim. Coat looks good. I'll see how it stands up to winter use.

Great coat for casual and also looks good with dress attire. This is my third one. Love LL Bean products and they back them as well.
