Rated 5 out of 5 by sniper23 Comfortable, functional
I used these pants for the first time yesterday hunting pheasants in NJ. They fit very well and were very comfortable. The multitude of pockets kept my keys, phone and wallet secure while going through the briars. The briars scratched up my hands but my legs were well protected. The pants breathed well and I didn't overheat. I don't know how they will hold up after seasons of use but I'll find out. They are the only pants I will hunt pheasants in.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Goldhunteroz tough pair of upland hunting pants
Over the years I've purchased and used different manufacturers upland hunting pants. About two and a half years ago I purchased two pairs of these pants, one for a backup just in case. These pants have been exposed to briars, barbwire fence, sticks, thorns, multiflora rose along with others items and are starting to show signs of minimal wear. I've stayed warm and dry during all different types of hunting conditions. In my opinion they have just two flaws which you will find listed below is the only reason why I didn't give them 5 star. If LL Bean would ever change their front pockect design they WOULD be the BEST in my book.
very well made
store two extra shells on both legs
-No suspender buttons
-2 front pockets on each side. WHAT A PAIN! I've got large hands it makes it very hard getting into either pocket. They need to do away with the two pocket feature due to the fact my front pockets (the ones without the zipper) fills up with seeds and vegetation.
-Just have ONE normal front pocket, sewn the right way

Rated 5 out of 5 by springersforever Great Pants!
I've been looking for an upland pair of pants that keeps me dry, sheds burrs and briars and is not binding in the knee and thigh areas. My old tin cloth pants served me well for years, but, these new LL Bean Gortex upland pants are just what I was looking for. I find them just as comfortable as my favorite jeans. The articulating knee feature and the expanding waist could not be more comfortable. I'm 6'3" and 235lbs and the 40" waist 33" inseam are perfect on me. Well made! The only con that I have seen is its a little difficult getting my hands in the front pockets with how it was styled.
This was my first review ever on a product so this kind of tells how impressed I am with the pants.

I wore these new hunting pants for the first time last week during a misty rain for six hours. I didn't get wet, didn't get cold, didn't get hot, and they were very comfortable the whole day walking hunting pheasants. They washed clean after the dirt dried two days later. They are "keepers"!

The fit is true to size. They are breathable and block wind. They will keep you dry and help you fight barbed wire.

Good product but could be better for not much more money.
I have only spent about 8 hours in these pants so far. I would replace the waist snap with a button type fastener. I would also add buttons for suspenders. Other than that, the pants are good.

Most of my pheasant hunting is in western Washington. Even when it does not rain the mornings have heavy dew. These pants shed the water, are warm, and turn back the black berries and briars. They are excellent pants and I have been very pleased with them.

I purchased a pair of these pants for my two sons and me. We have hunted N. Dakota, fished Alaska and used them here in Calif. They have proven comfortable, water proof and easy to clean. They come big enough to allow a layer if necessary but are good without. Kids also wore them "mudding" on quads. Stayed waterproof but did stain somewhat. Big deal.

I like my old waxed canvas pants, but have had problems with water penetration after several days of hunting grouse in snow or rain. In anticipation of an upcoming hunt, I was set to get new hunting pants. I looked at Filson, Cabelas and others to find a replacement. My friends told me I need to go with the Gortex so after some time looking, I stumbled on these from LL Bean. These pants from LL Bean have proven themselves to be excellent investment. I am not sure why I did not look at LL Bean first!
Relentless beating from laurel, briars and brambles, these pants did not show a sign of giving up. I was able to forge through without fear of ripping, tearing or puncturing. Even straddled several logs to get across streams and had a couple of tugs at these pants that would have ripped others.
Exceptionally comfortable with the articulated knees, these pants moved with me, never binding or restricting. They have deep pockets to hold cell phones, protein bars etc. each leg has a protected elastic pocket for two shells. They fit to size as ordered and the crotch/inseam was sized correctly and not too low. The waist has a snap closure, elastic sides to expand over layers of clothing, and rubber strips to keep shirts from working their way out.
Two of my friends have similar pants from another outfitter and they have to roll the waist several times to pull the crotch up so their legs can move freely.
These provide plenty of warmth and protection. We were in temperatures in the teens, peaking in the low 30's. With a simple layer of wicking long underware, these pants were warm all day long. Clear days ending in snow and rain, and I stayed warm and dry all day.
My only comment for improvement would be to have a boot cuff to keep bugs, material, snow etc, from working its way up your pants. I used some gaiters for that purpose, but a sewn in cuff would be nice.
Kind of strange to get this excited about pants, but they performed flawlessly. I would highly recommend these to anyone who needs a durable, dry, comfortable hunting pant.

Rated 5 out of 5 by tyee not just for bird hunting
I bought these pants to replace regular rain pants for land surveying in wet, brushy western Oregon. They fit and wear more like jeans than rain pants, protect against the poky stuff, the articulating and reinforced knees make kneeling easy, and I can bull strait through the toughest brush without fear of ripping them. Other subtle details like the security of zippered pockets and sticky waistband that holds a shirt tucked in are appreciated. Overall this is a high quality, intelligently designed pair of pants that are quickly becoming my favorite for field work.
