Rated 5 out of 5 by RareRater6 What I Wanted
This coat is exactly what I wanted - plenty warmth with lots of room to reach and move. I'm 6' so I got the tall, and it was the correct choice for me. The button-out wool liner is great. It has the "old world" feel I was looking for. I rarely rate anything, but this coat is superb so I felt I should.

I bought this same jacket about twenty years ago but lost the liner. I finally got tired of waiting for the jacket to go on sale so I bought another one. The jacket is great but the changes have not been for the best... The exterior pockets are different and my Mini-iPad won't stay in the outside pockets anymore. The smaller "handwarmer pockets" barely hold my sunglasses.
Being resourceful, I have solved my problems by removing the liner from the new jacket sand buttoning it into the old, faded, and frayed jacket. Now I have a winter coat that is warm but looks like the horses used it for tug-of-war and a brand new jacket that will probably be great for late spring and early fall.
By the way, they won't sell just a liner or I would have gone in that direction.

Rated 3 out of 5 by JohnDeere55 I've owned this Field Cost for years now ...
... so I consider myself to have a qualified opinion about it. It's pretty good overall but it could be better.
1# Three buttons in the front #four if you count the neck) is not enough; there needs to be four available for everyday use in order to keep the chill at bay.
2) The front outside buttons need to be of better quality; all of these buttons on my coat have begun to chip and crack.
3) The backside of the buttons on the inside of the coat need to be secured with more than a small piece of fabric. Normal use of the buttons on my coat caused one of them to eventually pull through, creating a hole in the coat material. I just spent an hour replacing the buttons and secured them with small buttons on the inside so that further damage to the fabric won't occur.
4) The button holes that hold the liner in place need more reinforcement.

Rated 5 out of 5 by GJD1142 Was looking for a "new" old coat...
Have been looking at the Field Coat for about a year. I have had one for 20+ years that is beginning to show a little age! Was concerned that the replacement would not be of the same quality and standards of the original.
New coat arrived in FOUR shipping days. I have been wearing it since; very pleasantly surprised. All of the original features have been retained PLUS PrimaLoft lining in the sleeves.
Very satisfied with this coat; warmth, fit and comfort. It is reassuring that some things that really work are kept available-with LL BEAN this seems to be more common than most.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Delmer Best coat I've owned in a long time
I ordered the version with the removable liner so that I could utilize it as a 2 possibly 3 season coat Spring, Fall and Winter. Here in Central Florida a heavy coat is alomost never needed. But this Field Coat will fit the bill for those cool windy afternoons and also the coldest of days I will see during the year.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Bentleyboy Needs more buttons!
I purchased this coat because I was tired of nylon shell jackets ripping so easily. I also liked the fact that it was a little longer than a jacket but not as long as an overcoat. I wear it to work and casual outings.
The coat is well constructed and I feel it will last a long time. It fits good and feels comfortable to wear. I especially like the big outside pockets.
I would have given the coat a "5" except for the button arrangements. I feel the coat needs about two more buttons. When I sit or bend over, the coat "opens" in the area between the buttons letting cold air in. This is especially true when sitting. Also, the attachment of the buttons seems weak. They seem like they are ready to fall off, although so far this has not been the case. I even thought of taking the coat to a tailor to see if two more buttons and holes could be added.
Overall pleased and enjoy wearing the coat.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Morel Great Barn Coat. You can put it in the washer
Very warm and the removable liner makes it more comfortable in Spring and Fall. This replaced one I bought about 15 years ago that has a few holes. It has been washed untold times. Keeping these clean is a snap. I have also washed the wool liner with no problems.
Wish it still came in white however.

Rated 1 out of 5 by KBHULL Sizing way off.
Had a field coat years ago and loved it. Went to the store at Legacy place to try one on for size. One is all they had. With the cotton liner but an XL which is my size. Fit well. Ordered the coat on line with the Wool/nylon liner which detaches. Way too big and the sleeves were ridiculously long. Returned it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by ahsng75y Nice looking, casual yet warm field coat
We have been looking to replace a favorite, old jacket similar to this one and up til now have not been able to locate it anywhere. When it arrived, it matched exactly what we were looking for. The ability to buy it in "Tall" size, yet not too large was perfect,.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Alanjayg Not long enough
Tall guys be aware: if you're 6"3" as I am LLBean tall size doesn't cut it. At least with this coat. Could use a few more inches in length. Why did I check off "Yes-recommend"? It's a fine coat if you don't need the length.
