Rated 1 out of 5 by ChristinaD2 Defective Fabric
I have had to return two of the Charcoal Heather/Deepest Red Striped Henleys, due to fabric defects. I washed each shirt (delicate/cold) and had the same result with both... The outer fabric on the sleeves seemed to disintegrate, leaving numerous small holes.
*Customer Service told me both times that this particular problem had not been reported by anyone else, but the product reviews show otherwise.

Rated 5 out of 5 by WastedWolf Two-Layer River Driver Shirt
Best and warmest shirt in my closet. No problems at all with itching. I plan on buying at least 3 more of these shirts.
The two-Layer River Driver Shirt is by far my favorite shirt to wear alone or under one of my many L.L. Bean Flannel Shirts.

Good looking shirt however teen son found this shirts material at the collar and at the wrist to be very itchy. He took it off after just a short time. Husband decided he would try it as he liked the looks of it. He too said it was itchy and said to send it back.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Goodhue 2nd Review,In Response to Those Claiming Itchiness
I've been wearing these shirts for years and I wear them often because they are so comfortable and warm. I'm writing a 2nd review in response to the claims of "itchy" in several reviews. ~ When buying any wool articles you must decide beforehand if you have a reaction to wool. My wife, for example can not tolerate wool at all. I,on the otherhand, swear by wool as the best material to keep me warmest in cold weather. ~ These shirts contain only some wool and it makes them much warmer than the cotton shirts I own. ~Note:For a year or two Bean made a River-Driver shirt that was 100% cotton,I still have 2, but it wasn't nearly as warm.~ Another recommendation I'd make, since my previous review, is to go for the little bit extra and buy the Tall. I'm 6 ft. and 160 lbs. and now order the Tall so that when I tuck in the shirt,it stays tucked through all ranges of movement.I also like the longer sleeves because I can tuck them under my gloves and prevent that annoying feeling of that cold spot on my wrists during cold weather. In any event, the River-Driver shirts, both Henley and crew, are my warmest shirts for winter wear and fit easily under sweaters and fleece. ~ Highly recommended!

Rated 2 out of 5 by Mojomike Beware of Shrinkage!
Be aware that this shirt can seriously shrink in the wash. Got this 2-Layer Henley as a gift (size M); loved it first time I wore it. But the care directions require it to be blocked and dried flat (a hassle); no dryer. Even then mine shrunk significantly and is now very constricting and uncomfortable; (and I'm not a big guy). Too bad -- I really liked it the one time I wore it new?.If you're "pushing" a size, better order up.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Pickwick1 material quality changed
My yearly order of river driver shirts arrived this week and I'm very sorry to note that the thickness and warmth of the material has worsened. It's hard to believe that there are two layers to these shirts. Very thin and no texture to the material as in past years. I can't believe that there is any wool at all in these shirts. I'm glad I still have several shirts from past years when quality was still excellent. Can't recommend these any more.

Rated 2 out of 5 by JuneauHiker My Least Favorite Bean Purchase
I really wanted to like this shirt as I thought it paired well with the chamois shirts and flannels but I find it mostly stays in my dresser drawer. To start it just isn't very warm - not like you'd expect from a traditional wool shirt. I find a basic base layer does as much if not more. The inner cotton lining is just a bit thicker than cheese cloth and doesn't do as much as I'd like to cut down on the itch so I'm forced to wear a long sleeve t underneath. Last is the sleeve length which I will agree with other reviewers on - it's too long. I fine I pretty much roll the entire cuff back to keep them from coming out of my overshirt cuff.
I will still say I think the shirt looks nice but that alone isn't enough and so this shirt gets the lowest rating I've given to a Bean product.

Rated 2 out of 5 by HunterFox Two layer river driver shirt- itchy fabric
I've purchased and really liked the LL Bean long sleeve Henley shirts in the past. These river driver shirts are made of a differrent fabric that is slightly itchy and uncomfortable against my skin. Returning these shirts.
