Rated 4 out of 5 by TaylorG Nice, but shrinks
As other reviewers have noted, these will shrink. I confess that I made this worse by drying them in the dryer, but I have four of these and I got tired of draping them on the furniture to dry them.
They shrank enough that I can't wear them over long sleeve t-shirts as I intended, because the material bunches up oddly producing a sloppy look.
However, these now cling rather flatteringly when I wear them alone, producing a more athletic look. This wouldn't work to your advantage if you're overweight.
The only real negative is that the collar tends to bacon.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Bean1960 awesome shirt
I bought two; red in tall xl and later last winter a blue heather in xl.
they are warm and resilient. Yes, you cannot really dry this correctly in your dryer. But I hate my dryer and use only when there is no sun out. I dont even dry flat, but hang it by four clothes pins at the neck and arm seams, then drape the arms over the line.
the tall is extra snugly and allows me to easily pull the cuffs over my hands when walking or reading inside.

Rated 2 out of 5 by purexplorer Wanky fit after two washings
Out of the package this shirt fit well but after two washings it had shrank significantly creating a wanky cut that was short and narrow at the waist and awkwardly broad in the shoulders resulting in a splayed collar and an uncomfortable fit. LL Bean usually gets it right but this one missed the mark.

Bought two of these last year. Both shrank such that I rarely wear them now. Would recommend buying one size larger than you normally wear.

Rated 5 out of 5 by SunbeltGirl Henley's are perfect!
I bought this shirt for my husband, brother and dad.
They all love the L.L. Bean Henley's. In fact, they did not stop with this one. They all got additional colors.
The Henley's are great because you can dress them up or dress them down with a pair of jeans and sneakers.
I bought one for my mom, my daughter and myself as well in the ladies Henley shirts.

Rated 4 out of 5 by KAOSfromVA Hoping the quality has not changed over 30years
I bought this shirt for my husband over 30-years ago and it is his go-to frigid weather gear. I just ordered one for my Nephew who is in a New Hampshire Non-heated cabin this winter. I truly hope that these comments that the quality has changed are incorrect!!! I was hoping I purchased the great shirt that has lasted a generation!

Rated 2 out of 5 by Hardwareman Scratchy and Wrinkles
I was looking for a warm, base layer for winter golf. I had high hopes for this shirt, because it is lightweight and warm, and the XLT fit is good. However, it is not comfortable, as the cotton and wool seem to be woven together. Some wool I can wear, but not this.
Also, the drying protocol is ridiculous. I wash all my shirts cold, so that is not a problem, but it takes 12 hours plus for this shirt to dry flat, and it does wrinkle badly. Ironing a "Riverman's" shirt is an oxymoron.
Have to return.

I was expecting smooth soft cotton interior but when I wore it after washing it was very itchy and scratchy on my skin. Will return

HATE THESE SHIRTS! I am the laundry mistress of the house. Husband ordered two of these for Christmas. Of course, he did NOT look at fabric content and/or washing instructions. Nor would have I. After all, this is suppose to be a heavy duty, sturdy, outdoors shirt. I told him that if he orders anything else like this, HE WILL HAVE TO DO HIS OWN LAUNDRY. I just want to throw it into the machine with HOT water, And then, throw it into the dryer without worrying about shrinkage or extreme wrinkling.

Rated 5 out of 5 by southerncountryboy Better Than Carhartt
L.L. Bean's River Driver Henleys are better than any Carhartt henleys. Truly, they're the best henleys manufactured. The style is that of a nineteenth century logger's shirt, that Carhartt attempts to imitate with rough urban worker materials and colors. The material is comfortable yet masculine. The style is traditional. The fit is roomy. The dark colored ones are a part of American history.
