I have not been in a canoe in 20 plus years. I was unsure as I enter this canoe, but everything went well. It did not take long to get my sea legs back and off I went. My first voyage was for 5 hours up and down the local creek. Easy to manuver in and out of the down trees and shallow spots. I was very surprised how stable the canoe is seeing how it has such a short length. And, oh, the weight of this canoe. Unbelievably light. I portaged over a few of the island with no problems. I strongly recommend this for any outdoor indiviuals. I am planning a 3 day trip and can not wait.

RangerChase Awesome Canoe
I am from Anchorage Alaska and we have many lakes in this area .. This canoe is lots of fun , easy to carry and very steady in the water . I moved the seat a bit back and installed another seat in the front . Now me and my cousin and my dog go fishing for trouts all the time..

I own two other canoes and a kayak and this canoe is by far the best. I can carry it to the water by myself, it is stable when I enter and exit, and it handles like a dream. I use my kayak paddle and it moves through the water so smoothly with little effort--even with a head wind.

I have owned this model canoe for two years. This is easier to get in and out of than my former small cockpit kayak. Because it is only 12 ft long, and weighs less than 35 pounds, getting in and out does take some more care than entering a longer and heavier canoe, but not difficult to do with some practice. Once in, it is stable and fun. I find it works especially well with a wide kayak paddle, especially in tandem with an LLBean canoe seatback. I have found it to be stable on flat water and occasional swift river current. Unlike a kayak, a cooler or other equipment can easily be packed along. With just one person on board, it drafts less than most kayaks. Last fall, on a very calm day, I took it out on LaPlaisance Bay, which is on western Lake Erie near Monroe, MI. It felt secure and stable. Of course I did not go very far out and was wearing a good life jacket. The best part is it is easy to throw in the back of a pickup or even out the back window of a small SUV, so one will find themselves using it more than perhaps a longer craft.

Hhmmm...I've been canoeing for 16 years and have never ended up in the drink until this canoe. It is very tippy. It is lightweight which I love for those times when I don't need the 68 pound Old Town Camper canoe, but I am very disappointed in its lack of stability on the water. Paddles great with a 240cm kayak paddle. I'd recommend it, but wear a life jacket and learn to swim.

It's hard to overstate how great this boat is. I bought it thru LLBean a few years ago. Kinda shocked it's not reviewed here, but I can start it. If you'll go to paddling.net you'll find the old town pack is the most reviewed canoe on their site...and on most of the web. For good reason, the Pack canoe is viewed as the perfect all around boat by most everyone, short of those looking for 3 or more in a canoe.
You can paddle it with single or double blade, construction is just about bulletproof, it's got rocker, freeboard, and keel that's perfect for so many waters. use it plain, it's perfect, add on whatever you like as the trip demands, the pack can handle it. It has HUGE capacity in wt and volume. paddle with a lowered seat helps. I like the sitbacker seat back (also got from llbean)
I've had my son in the front in a lawnchair with legs cut off, and we've fished/camped for 3 days...then I've camped myself for 2 weeks out of it by myself - this boat does it all.
I can flyfish from it, stand, sit, camp for a week, take the lab and decoys and duck hunt, took it to gulf and paddle/poled it for redfish, took it to rocky mtns and portaged it for miles - at 33 lbs, it's lighter than my backpack! it's just a joy, see what I mean? I get silly talking about it, but I LOVE this canoe! Right now, I also own 2 fishing kayaks and a fishing jonboat and the Pack canoe. In the past, I've owned powerboats for fishing and pleasure...The Pack is the ONE boat I would never get rid of.
