I had been searching for a fishing rod holder for my canoe for several years! Then a friend suggested I check the LLBean website. I ordered one to check it out, and it works perfectly for my wood trimmed canoe!! I added felt pads to the contact points to avoid damaging the wood, and it holds my rod sturdy while I paddle and troll for fish. I will order another one for my passenger, although I usually go with my labrador retriever buddy, and she doesn't qualify for a fishing licence!!

This package came yesterday. It was delivered quickly, and in perfect condition. It's a VERY solid construction, and know it will provide a lifetime of service! The one and only problem I see in using this is that the metal could damage a $400.00 fly reel. But I've already decided to glue some neoprene on the contact areas, and that should do it. The manufacturers should consider doing this. Overall, I'm very pleased with this quality product!

This Down-east rod holder has a nice design and feels solid. However, I had to exchange this D-10 model which is for freshwater for the S-10 model which is designed for saltwater. The freshwater version is too narrow to receive my rods. Additionally, the saltwater version (S-10) can bear more weight.

If you canoe and fish this rod holder is for you. My fishing buddies and I have used several other rod holders and this one really sets the bar. Solid construction, easy to use, and saves on the shines from rubbing against the gunwales!

I'm not going to say I use this every time I slip my LL Bean Old Town Pack Canoe in the water....on some trips I backpack camp and carry the canoe in for some distances...on those trips I'm watching weight. On other trips - smaller fish, sight fishing, spot to spot stream fishing...I don't really need it.
BUT - when we went to the Gulf - trolling for big reds and sea trout. When I've been drift trolling for stripers, even bottom bumping for catfish...it's really nice to have this rod holder on the gunnel of the canoe.
Like I put in the title...it looks and feels like quality. Like my old wool campshirt...I think there's no reason I couldn't have this for rest of my life. Quality.

This is definately a solid built rod holder. Secure this holder, set the drag and you won't have to worry about losing your rod when the big one strikes. Lifts out of the holder nicely to set the hook! Angles at (approximately) from 0-90 degrees horizontally/vertically and 360 degrees at set increments.

It isn't often that a product is made this well anymore but this rod holder is. All you have to do is lift up and out and your casting, spinning, or fly rod will lift right out with ease. Made of quality aluminum they are not plastic-icky and don't break. I bought one from Bean 16 years ago. Stopped in Freeport a few years ago and boutght one for grandaughter. Both still work fine. Made in Maine, USA with obivious pride and craftmanship.
