I am extremely impressed with the fine quality of the construction, design and detail of these nylon/leather Cresta hiking boots. I have a difficult foot to fit (narrow width, even narrower heel; high, stiff arch), and I can tell already that these 10-narrow boots will be just what I need. I have not been as successful on my peculiar foot with Vasque and some other brands (my fault; not theirs). I have read other reviews on this boot regarding the merits and cons of ankle support vs. low-cut trail shoes. I actually think I can experience the best of both worlds, depending on how high I lace these up. In some circumstances, I might need a tighter support around the ankles; in other cases, not so much. I do realize I'll need a break-in period to flex these out, but that will not be a problem. I had not bought any new boots of this high quality in 20 years, so I was a bit skeptical regarding what was out there and whether I should order by mail or not. I feel I've hit a home run with these, and I look forward to using them on Appalachian Trail day hikes and, eventually, getting them into my rotation of using them on volunteer AT work trips (southwest Virginia). I highly recommend these boots and really thank LL Bean for offering them and offering such a generous satisfaction program. For my needs and expectations, the price is more than fair.

I bought these boots for walking my dog in winter. I bought a half size large so I could fit extra thick socks. They're a little heavy, but comfort, protection and stability are just about perfect. Every time I put them on, I think to myself they're probably the best clothing item I own.

by Searcher1992 Comfortable and durable hiking boots
I've been wearing Cresta leather and nylon hiking boots for more than ten years. The accompanying photo shows the last four pairs, including my latest ones. Believe me, I wouldn't have bought this many if the first pair wasn't right for me. I have narrow feet, and these are one of the few narrow boots you can find--I've looked. They are very comfortable right out of the box, they require a minimal break-in period, and as you can see from the photo, they're durable.
I'm a search and rescue volunteer in southern Arizona, and I have hiked thousands of miles in these boots, usually off-trail through mountains and into canyons (by definition, a lost person is seldom on a trail). The boots have very good traction, edging or smearing, when climbing over rocks and water-slick boulders. They are waterproof (Gore-Tex), but I've soaked them in rainstorms and by wading through streams, and when they dry, they're as good as ever. Quite frankly, I abuse my boots, but the Crestas stand up to it for a long time. When the latest pair finally wears out, I'll buy another.

I have had 3 pair of the Cresta hikers and love them soon to buy my fourth pair. Lots of hiking with scouts. I hike to work at times just 2 miles away and usually wear them as casual shoes. I retire my old boots to yard work...still going strong. Soon to buy my next boots to break them in at Philmont, NM. Love the boots!!!

Rated 2 out of 5 by GreeenMts Gone way down in quality
I have just wrecked through second pair of these hiking boots. The first pair lasted 7 years, and I thought it was a great boot. The leather wore decently well and the boots performed and supported my feet in a great way. Eventually when the glue between the sole and the boot started to give way and the boot was no longer waterproof I bought another pair. So after 7 years of no blisters or twisted ankles and a lot of hiking, I started to break-in my new pair of Cresta Hikers. But within the first two months the sheen (or paint) on the leather wore off like it was veneer plastic coating and left the leather raw. I tried to protect it with leather treatment but it didn't work. The leather LLBean now uses on these boots performs poorly and does not last. It's been only one year and I will be returning the boots because the leather is horribly split and is completely detached from the rubber on both boots. I don't believe the boots are made in Italy anymore like the original ones I bought were. I will not be getting this boot again and would not recommend anyone get this boot unless LLBean goes back to making them with the material and quality they used to.

I have had a pair of these for many years. To be honest, I wore them only as "casual wear" for a good while. This was a mistake. I should have pounded on them sooner.
Last August, I took these boots to the Boundary Waters for a week long solo trip (well, it was me and my dog). This is no small undertaking, since what you bring is what you have. I couldn't trust my feet to just any old boot for this trip. A footwear failure could a a serious problem.
These boots were excellent. I hiked portages with steep grades, rock, mud, loose gravel and wet tree roots with up to 60 lbs on my back.
These boots handled everything with no issues. They also kept my feet dry until the rain started. I had no issues with the waterproofing as long as I did my part to keep water from coming in through the big hole on top. I did get wet feet, but that was my fault. The lining was waterproof after years of casual wear.
I have a few pairs of more expensive boots, but if I had to buy a pair of hiking boots today, I'd go with these.
Buy 'em. You won't go wrong.

They are beat up and well used. They are still very comfortable and still going strong. I read some of the negative reviews and I have not had the same experience. They continue to be a superlative boot. Climbed the loop trail on Tumbledown last year with them and they were worth their weight in gold. No regrets, I would buy them again.

At 66 years old I have at least 50 years of pretty extensive hiking experience. I settled on the Cresta Boots several years ago as the most comfortable and reliable boot that I have ever worn. I am on my second pair and I am considering purchasing another pair to break in on day hikes while squeezing the last drop of life out of the old ones on multi-day excursions . I always carry a pack and these boots have carried me all over southern Utah, Phantom Ranch in the Big Ditch, and hundreds and hundreds of miles through out the Adirondack mountains. I clean them after every hike. That's every hike. I water proof lightly every 100 miles or so. They have been flawless but the soles are about worn out from all the miles. Still fit like a glove and are absolutely water proof. I wouldn't have it any other way !

These are the best hiking shoes I have ever owned. I have worn out 3 or 4 pairs of these shoes. I wear them every day walking my dogs multiple times in all kinds of weather. These boots wear well, fit great and are my favorite. They last a very long time; the last pair lasted over 3 years.

I bought there shoes for hiking and now wear them all the time. They are so comfortable I can walk all day at work and then go for a hike after work wearing the same shoes.
