Rated 5 out of 5 by Coognut Over 10 years of waterproof, durable, comfort
I recieved these boots as an "off to college" gift in 2003. Since then they have seen countless hiking treks, camping trips and roadtrips. They've done construction, demolition, painting, landscaping and survived 10 northern Vermont winters and mud seasons. They have been my daily work boot for the last 3 years. During all those years these boots always kept my feet dry and comfortable. At the end of last winter, the sole finally became separated from the rest of the boot even after 2 months of weekly shoe-gooing. I mailed them back to L.L. Bean and 2 weeks later they mailed me a credit for $229. After all that use and abuse. So tonight I bought myself another pair of the same Cresta Hikers that I wore til their end. I highly recommend this product and buying gear from LL Bean because they really do stand by their guarantee.

Great boots, but if you hike in snow and ice the finish gets a bit ragged. Buy Bean's boot cream to keep them looking good.

Rated 5 out of 5 by MassShopper Wish I'd bought these years ago
Without a doubt, these are the most comfortable hiking boots I have owned since I started wearing hiking boots 40 years ago. I wish I had just paid the money for what I wanted years ago instead of always trying to find a bargain. These are worth the money, in my view. I broke them in walking my dog and after a few walks they fit just right. The option for a size 9 1/2 Narrow means I don't have to bulk up with socks to make boots fit my skinny feet. They are not as light as some boots I've tried that have textile uppers, but they are highly supportive and conform to feet as only leather does. A rubber toe cap would have been a good idea. Treating the leather with mink oil or Bean's Boot Guard has helped prevent small scuffs and cover bigger ones, but some factory-installed rubber on the toe would be a worthwhile upgrade (if LLBean product planners are paying attention). I've had boots before by Merrill, Vasque and LLBean, and none feel as good on my feet as these Crestas. Great boots.

Rated 5 out of 5 by SDdad "Apocalypse worthy" boots
I was lacing up my Cresta boots the other day and I said to my teen-age daughter: "If I had to choose one pair of shoes from my closet and wear them indefinitely as I wander the Earth after the zombie apocalypse, these are the ones." LOL!
I've owned them for over two years and they are by far the most comfortable/durable shoes that I own. Comfortable out of the box but much better once they get broken in. The "B" width is great for my narrow feet.

This is my second pair and the same weakness has not been corrected. The lace's often come off of the hooks and they constantly untie unless they are double tied.
Please replace the laces and make the hooks deeper.

Rated 5 out of 5 by LLBeanPDX Best Boots I've ever owned
I've had my Cresta Hikers for 5 years and wear them for a variety of wet outdoor activities here in the Pacific Northwest. They are extremely comfortable and required very little break in. I can't say I agree with the out of the box comfort. I followed that recommendation and had some serious blisters the next day. The only thing I don't like about them is the scuffing that has manifested on the toes. It is almost white in contrast to the dark color of the boots. t is purely aesthetic, but still worth mentioning.

Rated 5 out of 5 by fgh2 No break-in required, good for hard-to-fit feet
Cresta-hikers come in a wide variety of sizes. My feet are size 12 1/2 E. I have been hiking with size 14 EE Cresta-hikers for 16 years in total comfort. No problem with bruised toes going downhill. I'm currently on my third pair of Cresta-hikers. None of the three pairs required any break-in - totally comfortable from day one

Rated 2 out of 5 by IronSwan They used to be the best...
The older Version of these, that were made in Italy, were the best boots I've ever had on my feet. Amazing boots!
The newer, current version(made in Romania I believe?) are... Not the same. Not even close.
Like everyone else, my soles are falling off. The stitching on the heels are almost completely undone, and the lining on the insides have come all apart, exposing the foam.
I don't know if I'd pay $140 for these, let alone $240.
Sadly, I'll have to find a new brand.
I won't buy $240 boots that fall apart after one year.
Like with most LL bean goods these days, the name no longer is synonymous with 'quality' or 'durable'.
Most of LL Bean goods are now just cheap import stuff.
Prices keep going up, quality keeps going down.
Such a shame.
I miss the old LL bean. :(

I've had these a little more than four months, worn lightly and I get wet feet walking through the morning dew. Ridiculous to pay this price for leaky boots.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Gary22 Very comfortable and supportive
After finding the right size for me thanks to Bean's great return policy, I have to say that these boots are some of the most comfortable and supportive boots that I have ever owned. I have stood in water up to the top, feet were dry as a bone. If there was a steel toe version I would instantly get a pair for work too. The only problem I have with them was the brown laces began to fray on the hooks when I laced them up. That could just be my fault, I don't know. Great boot!!
