Unlike some reviewers, I had no trouble assembling this. It took 10-15 minutes, with no help. I do not think the details are particularly robust. Four drywall screws (essentially) hold the bottom shelf in place. The top shelf is supported by gravity (rests on the sides), but only four screws hold it together, and stabilize it against sway. Make sure they are tight (but do not over-tighten and strip - no power screwdriver). The middle shelf is supported on four short, wood dowels. They did not fit snugly in the holes, and kept falling out. I ended up wrapping the end of each in a tiny piece of duct tape, and tapping them in place with a mallet.
Design-wise, not perfect, either. The bottom shelf is needlessly far above the floor (I thought). The clear space between the two fixed shelves is only 16" and the adjustable shelf is 3/4" thick, so no space for any very tall books, in any position. I wanted this for some music books in my study; I had to lie them all on their sides, to make this work.
Overall, it does the job, acceptably, if not wonderfully. I would give it a qualified recommendation. It looks nice, though.

I needed a shallow depth bookcase for library books and this furniture was perfect. Easy to assemble, solid wood. I'm very pleased.

Rated 5 out of 5 by fisher51 Perfect Small Accent Piece
I wanted a small, wooden, under window shelf for in front of a sunny bay-window for plants. This is perfect - it's solid, well-made, and attractive. It was easy to assemble, but it certainly was useful to have two people working together to line-up the pieces. Instructions were clear and easy to follow.

Nice piece of furniture when it's finally assembled. But the assembly was frustrating. For one thing, some of the predrilled holes were not properly drilled; we had to soap the screws to get them into those holes. Another thing: the instructions tell you to thread the screws just enough to hold the sides, top, and bottom together, and then stand the bookcase upright before tightening the screws. Well, at that point it just falls apart and you have to start again. And before you lift it up--while the bookcase is still on its side on the floor--you really can't put the screws in at right angles because the top shelf is wider than the bottom shelf, so you have to raise the lower shelf on a book. We finally had to resort to masking tape (to keep the parts together when standing the bookcase upright) and a hammer and nails (that's the only way we could tighten the sides solidly to the shelves because of the defective holes). We nearly gave up several times, but we didn't want to waste the time we'd already invested in it, and we didn't want to have to pack the pieces up for shipment back to LLBean. In the end, we succeeded in getting it assembled and declared victory over the bookcase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by mindygirl Just what I'd been looking for to use in my den
very happy with the workmanship of this piece. As stated in the instructions 2 people are best for assembling. Also the instructions were very clear and easy to follow. It should last for many years.

The book self is a perfect fit under the window. The quality of the wood is excellent. I found the instructions and assembly of the book self easy to follow.

Extremely well made of solid ash (a super durable hardwood), easy to assemble, great natural finish, and solidly rigid structure for holding books make this a very smart purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Turtle71 Great for National Geographic
I had a stack of National Geographic magazines I didn't want to get rid of and empty space below 2 windows, so I took a chance on this bookshelf. I love it! This shelf comes packed flat. My UPS driver decided to slide the box down the stair of his truck, let it crash on to the ground and then flip the box letting it crash on to my driveway. The edge of the box was completely crushed, but to my relief the shelf inside was packed well and undamaged. The directions were straight forward and it was easy to assemble. The wood is solid and there is no odor. I have to laugh over reviews that said it was wobbly. You have to tighten the screws all the way! I bought 1 and had it for a year before I bought the 2nd. The first is in the direct sun and the finish still looks good. With the shelf in the highest position the National Geographics fit perfectly, and the yellow looks really nice with the dark wood.

The bookcase came to us damaged. There is a gouge on the top shelf that happened during transit--you can see the gouge in the box. I guess someone dropped it or threw it. We didn't send it back, as unpacking the pieces was a big job and we didn't want to repack to return.
We had to hire a man with an electric screw driver to complete the job. The screw holes were not exactly aligned, and screwing them all the way in by hand was impossible. The description should say that you will need an electric screwdriver.
That said, the completed bookcase is sturdy enough and functional, though not what I would expect for the price. All in all, we are fairly satisfied. Given the poor quality of most inexpensive furniture these days, the bookcase is slightly better than average.
