Not pleased with these Crestas. The Italian made were a much better boot. This is my sixth or seventh pair. The price increase was a surprise, with poorer quality. Love LL Bean though

It had been years since I shopped for hiking/work boots, so I did a lot of online research before making my decision. Everything that I read about the Cresta hikers was positive. I kept looking for the negative reviews, but they weren't there. Finally I made the purchase last year. These boots provide everything that I need. They fit well, are supportive at the ankles, give excellent traction, look great, and will probably outlast me. So far all of my purchases at LLBean have been absolute winners!

Rated 5 out of 5áby Melkie Best Backpacking Boot Ever Purchased.
I initially found the boots to be uncomfortable with the socks I had at the time. I was lucky enough to be given the opportunity to use mid-weight and heavy-weight Cresta hiking socks in store. These boots are definitely intended for use with heavyweight socks and preferably a sock liner as well. The comfort level and ankle support with these socks is exceptional. In lighter socks, the ankle support can cause abrasion and be quite annoying. Luckily, my intended backpacking trip was in winter. The boots were brilliant. I put them through some of my state's most difficult terrain. They still look like new and have saved my feet from becoming drenched in water well below freezing during stream crossings. If you have the opportunity, try them on at a store, especially if embarking on a serious backpacking trip.

áby h8oualot Quality Boot/Great Customer Service
I've had my L.L. Bean Cresta's for two weeks. Upon opening the box, I was immediately struck by the impressive craftsmanship and the smell ... the smell of leather! I wore the boots for three days at the office breaking them in. Since then, I have been on 3 hikes at Turkey Mountain Urban Wilderness, Tulsa (2, 4 and 7 miles) and Elk Mountain Ascent, Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge, Ft. Sill (2 miles). I am very pleased with the combination of comfort and ruggedness of the boots. Said hikes were moderate to strenuous and were a good test for the boots. I have been hiking for 48 years ( I am 60 years old) since my first 10 mile hike to fulfill the requirements for 2nd Class Rank in Boy Scouts. Since 1972 I have purchased the best I could afford in hiking boots. I know quality and these boots are definitely in that class. I debated about a month between the Crestas and others before I made my decision. I read the reviews about the Crestas and finally made up my mind. I am pleased and recommend these boots for purchase by others not sure they want to "plunge in". They fit me true to size (9.5 D). Interaction with L.L. Bean was painless and shipping was fast. The brown and green laces provided look good but not as cool as the blue parachute cord I use for laces.

áby mgrant Good boots
I have had a pair of these boots for more than 10 years. I have good and bad news to report.
On the good news, when new, they are excellent boots. Almost never gave me a blister. Never twisted my ankle in them. The soles never wore threw.
However, they did not stay waterproof. As time went on, even with gortex in them, water definitely worked its way in.
The rubber around the base separated over time and I think this is where water started coming in. It didn't take much of a gap there. If there's one thing I would change on this boot it's that the rubber around the edge should come up a bit more around the edge and/or be stitched or reinforced into the leather in some way rather than just glued. The glue just is not durable over time. If you are careful, when you see this starting to separate, it might be a good idea to nip it in the bud and reglue it with some good silicon glue used in bathrooms.
Second point, the insole that came with it was really not great. Good thing it is easily removable. I replaced it with one of those insoles that mold to your foot made of memory foam and this really did the trick.
Lastly, the leather in my shoe definitely cracked over time. Be warned that this is a real leather shoe and you should apply leather treatment to it. I did this only a little, probably not enough, or I used the wrong product.
However, all things considered, I did get 10 or so years out of these boots and I put probably 1000miles on them if not more!

Rated 5 out of 5áby Jackel Never had a hiking boot fit me before
This boot felt good for my 12B feet the minute I put my feet in them. I've been wearing a very nice but too wide (D) Vasque boot for 20 years because I could not find one that actually fit my feet as well. That said, it is very stiff and has a lot of volume - my feet are like swim flippers so I'm not surprised. I added an old pair of Spenco inserts I had in my New Balance 12b walking shoes - they fit pretty good so the sizing is similar to New Balance - the inserts added enough lift so I could tighten the boots so my feet would not move much as I walked. I'll report more as I break them in and get a new set of Spenco's and fit them exactly for these boots - I really think as they soften up I can draw them tighter to take up any extra space on top of my feet - but width and length is very good.. Came with a second set of round shoe laces (Parachute cord?) - the laces in the boot are flat.

Rated 5 out of 5áby JWBSKI Love My Cresta Boots!!
I had been wearing the LL Bean Day Hikers for 7 years and they were starting to show their age. Since the Day Hikers are no longer available, I needed to find some other boots that i could do good hiking with in rough terrain and gave me good ankle support and provided great stability. The Cresta Boots are fantastic. I had them broken in with-in a few hours one evening. They are very comfortable and provide all of the stability, grip, and support. I love them!!

Rated 5 out of 5áby HikerGeoff Great boots, only one "but"
I've been through a few brands - all good quality, but these are the first I can say are truly dry. Others held up till I hiked through tall wet grass, and then after an hour or two they would relent and the water would hit my feet. The Cresta just keeps going. Support is great, the wide width helped, they are warm, but I wear good socks and find I'm not overly sweaty. Now the but - the inner sole - garbage. You get a month at most and then they fall apart.

Rated 5 out of 5áby Slabmir Durable, waterproof, looks good.
I've had these for a month and have worn them literally almost every day, and on a road trip across Western Canada they have held up to every challenge.
Excellent grip on all surfaces, including muddy, slick terrain and the Vibram rubber is solid - no deterioration after hiking on rocky, abrasive slopes.
Very waterproof out of the box. However, they got completely covered in mud at one point, and so I had to clean them off - since then the waterproofing was effective on the Goretex liner, but not wicking off the leather exterior. I used Nikwax cream and it's as good as new - the leather does not get saturated.
Good looking pair of boots. I got the black boots, I like the style much more than hikers I saw sold by Merrel, Solomon etc. because it's a classic design. It takes black Emu brand boot cream really well, and have a quality shine and finish - enough that I feel comfortable wearing them into town.
Overall, excellent boot, and I am confident they will last many more years. My only complaint, however, is that I can't find extra laces on the website. Already, the left boot's lace is starting to fray at one of the loop holes, and I really want to replace them with the same exact ones that repel water and fit well. I'll be looking around and contacting LL Bean about this.

Rated 5 out of 5áby Lunar2 Great hiking boot training for Philmont
I bought this hiking boot for Philmont this year, have been on 3 practice hikes and one very rainy day event. Fantastic hiking boot. I needed a 10 double wide and the 10.5 wide does very well for me. I wear wool socks with liners. Walked 27 miles his weekend, no blisters or hot spots! Been in water more than ankle high in streams and heavy rain, foot stayed dry! Should have bought his a long time ago.
