I bought my first Manatee almost 7 years ago and have spent many wonderful summers making memories in my red and yellow kayak. I have taken it to many places over the years and have had some amazing adventures. Sadly this year was its last year. Over the winter, a small dog fell into a frozen pond next to my house. I was at work when it happened, but I have a good friend who was there and made a life saving decision. The poor little thing was too far out for anyone to reach safely and my quick thinking neighbor grabbed my kayak and a fireman was able to scoot out on the ice and save him. Unfortunately the weight of the large rescuer scooting on the ice caused a crack and hole in the bottom of my boat. I wouldn't have changed a thing as the little dog is safe and sound. I called ll bean to see if it was able to be repaired and they told me to bring it back and they would replace it!!! This is a wonderful product made by a wonderful company! this will be the only kayak you will ever need.

My family has two entry-level, 10-foot kayaks from two different manufacturers and two different retailers. We purchased this one second.
Both kayaks are excellent. They are both stable, track well, and turn well. We've used them on lakes and rivers with a few rapids. My son is 75 pounds, and I'm 275. We both have a blast, in both kayaks. Get one - you'll love it.
This one (the Manatee 10) is more expensive than the other, but has several nice touches. The seat is more advanced and comfortable. The paddle loop is handy. It has a second deck bungee, which may come in handy some day.
That said, the other boat has a drain plug, but the Manatee does not. I thought all kayaks had drain plugs. I mean, how do you get water out of a kayak without a drain plug? I don't know. My Manatee is currently on my car's roof, and it still has water in it. I suppose I have to wait for it to evaporate?
Actually, I'll buy an aftermarket plug and install it myself. But that's kind of ridiculous.

I bought one of these about a month ago, and I have gotten to take it out 3-4 times. I went with the LL Bean Manatee mainly because it has the best price point and features. The company that molds these kayaks sells basically the same one for $200.00+ more at competitors stores. You also can get a paddle and cover included with LL Bean.
This boat has a comfy seat with simple yet high tech adjustments for foot pedals and the back of the seat. There are plenty of straps to cary your water bottle or clip a bag onto.
I mainly use this boat for flatwater cruising and class I-II rapids.
I also purchased the Harmony Skirt for this product. The cock pit is wide so get the skirt to help with paddle drip and little rapids.
The cargo space is not dry/closed in, but one may be able to be converted. The skirt helps with that too.
