Overview

  • A custom lesson with an expert casting instructor
  • Learn spey-casting techniques and strategies

Two-handed, or spey, casting can make it possible to fish in places and conditions that would be impossible with a single-handed rod. Spey casting can get the fly where you want it on big water. It's an ideal technique for Atlantic salmon or steelhead. Spey casting can also give you the ability to reach great distances with limited back-cast clearance and to have better line control than is possible with shorter rods.

Itinerary

During your private lesson you'll learn about the specialized equipment and casts needed to get out on the water with 11- to 15-foot-long two-handed rods. Lessons typically include the following casting techniques: switch cast, circle spey/snap-T, double spey, snake roll and single spey. You and your instructor will wade in still freshwater during the lesson, giving you the most practical and effective preparation for this exciting style of fishing.
