Overview
- Learn basic safety skills and paddling techniques for kayaking in one-person sea kayaks
- Take a tour along Freeport's scenic coastline with Registered Maine Guides
- Enjoy lunch at a local sandwich shop before returning to the L.L.Bean Paddling Center
Experience the exciting sport of solo sea kayaking learn and practice the basic skills and strokes you need to paddle on your own. Our Registered Maine Guides will greet you at L.L.Bean's Lower Flying Point Paddling Center. You'll spend the first two hours of the program becoming comfortable with solo sea kayak handling. After working on skills close to shore, the group will depart on a guided tour among the islands of Casco Bay where you'll put what you've learned into practice. Your destination is a local sandwich shop located along the shoreline. Enjoy a delicious lunch with views of the marina before beginning the return journey to the Paddling Center.
Itinerary
Begin with a morning lesson where you'll learn basic strokes such as the forward, reverse, and sweep strokes. Your guides will discuss wet exits and what to do if you capsize. Then your experienced guides will lead you on an interpretive tour. As you take in the coastal scenery, your guides will share their knowledge of plants, wildlife and local history of Casco Bay. Stop for lunch along the way.
