National Wild Turkey Federation
When the National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF) was founded in 1973, there were only 1.3 million wild turkeys throughout North America. Since then, the number of wild turkeys has increased to nearly 7 million birds thanks to state, federal and provincial wildlife agencies, the NWTF, its members and partners. The NWTF, headquartered in Edgefield, SC, is dedicated to conserving wild turkeys and preserving hunting traditions. Growth and progress define the NWTF as it has expanded from 1,300 members in 1973 to more than 500,000 today. The organization has made great strides in wildlife management as the NWTF has forged dynamic partnerships across the country. You can help answer the call and join this organization today by calling or visiting the NWTF Web site listed below.
L.L.Bean, through annual contributions, sponsors an NWTF program, Operation Appleseed, which plants crabapple trees to provide winter wildlife food sources. In addition, L.L.Bean is a program sponsor of NWTF's youth outreach program, Xtreme JAKES (Juniors Acquiring Knowledge, Ethics and Sportsmanship), which teaches outdoor skills to teens.

Saco River Salmon Club
Maine's Saco River is shared by Atlantic salmon and more than 60,000 citizens who rely on the watershed for their water supply. By limiting sources of pollution and allowing adequate river flows, the Saco River Salmon Club (SRSC) works to improve water quality for both groups. As a result, the salmon are being restored to a natural, self-sustaining population as outlined in the Saco River Strategic Plan prepared by federal and state fishery agencies. SRSC operates a hatchery, monitors the success of the restoration effort and supplies education and internships.
Annual support for the Saco River Salmon Club for over a decade has helped the SRSC show demonstrable improvement in species protection.

The Nature Conservancy
By pioneering innovative, cooperative and non-confrontational solutions to land conservation, The Nature Conservancy preserves our natural heritage for future generations. Over one million members and more than 50 years strong, the organization has helped to protect nearly 16 million acres in the US and some 119 million acres internationally. The Conservancy's 1,500 preserves are the largest network of nature sanctuaries in the world.
Since its founding in 1956 by Rachel Carson and others, the group's Maine chapter has helped protect over one million acres of the state's most important wildlife habitat. The 74 Maine preserves include seabird nesting islands, old-growth forests, pine barrens, peatlands, mountains and grasslands. The chapter recently completed a particularly innovative project to protect some 241,000 acres of forestland around Baxter State Park. In return for providing financing for a timber products company, The Nature Conservancy acquired 41,000 acres as well as a conservation easement on an additional 200,000 acres. Known as the Katahdin Forest Project, the agreement protects wildlife habitat, ensures the forest is managed sustainably and provides public access. Linking together more than 750,000 acres of existing conservation lands, the Katahdin Forest Project is one more enduring legacy for future generations.
L.L.Bean has made annual contributions to the Maine chapter of The Nature Conservancy for over 30 years. Additional funding was provided to assist in the purchase of remote forestland along the St. John River in Maine. L.L.Bean is also a founding member of the Nature Conservancy Corporate Conservation Council of Maine, an organization founded for businesses to protect ecologically significant lands, waters and natural communities in Maine.

Since 1998, TPL has completed over 50 conservation projects in Maine, from working forests, farms and waterfronts to parks, trails and natural areas, preserving forever over 108,000 acres of land in Maine.
In honor of its 95th anniversary, L.L.Bean pledged $1 million toward the acquisition of nearly 7,000 acres of wilderness around northern Maine's Katahdin Lake. This parcel of land helps complete Percival Baxter's vision for Maine's Baxter State Park.
