L.L.Bean Debuts Limited-Edition Fenway Boat and Tote as Two New England Icons Mark 100 Years
Made from the Fenway Park Rain Delay Tarp from the 2010 and 2011 Baseball Seasons, Tote Provides an Opportunity to Own a Piece of Baseball and L.L.Bean History
Freeport, ME, June 07, 2012 – In 1912, two New England icons were born as Fenway Park opened its gates for the first time and Leon Leonwood Bean founded his namesake outdoor retailing business, L.L.Bean. One hundred years later, the two have come together to allow baseball fans to own a piece of Fenway Park and L.L.Bean history. L.L.Bean has introduced the Fenway Boat and Tote, a limited-edition version of the company’s signature tote, made from the rain delay tarp used to protect the Fenway Park infield from the elements during the 2010 and 2011 Boston baseball seasons. Only 2,012 totes have been produced.
The tote is constructed of repurposed Fenway Park rain tarp and trimmed with green handles. Each tote features a specially designed, baseball diamond-inspired patch recognizing L.L.Bean's 100th anniversary, and an interior pocket also made from the recycled rain tarp. Each of the 2,012 Fenway Boat and Totes is individually numbered, making it a unique collector's item for baseball and L.L.Bean fans alike. The limited-edition totes were handcrafted in Maine, just as the outdoor retailer's signature Boat and Tote has been for more than 65 years.
L.L. Bean believed in the reuse of materials long before “upcycling” became fashionable.
As an avid baseball fan, we're sure L.L. would be pleased with the creative use of the Fenway Park rain tarp in our newest Boat and Tote,” said Steve Fuller, Chief Marketing Officer for L.L.Bean. "Because the material is repurposed, each Fenway Boat and Tote is unique. Some may even have grass stains."
During our centennial years it was such a perfect fit to take a piece of Fenway Park – right from the field – and turn it into one of L.L.Bean's signature products,” said Red Sox Senior Vice President Troup Parkinson. "It's a way to own a piece of Boston baseball history."
The Fenway Boat and Tote will be available for purchase beginning at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, June 12. Featured on llbean.com, the tote will be priced at $59.95 and will be sold at the L.L.Bean flagship store in Freeport, Maine, as well as the Massachusetts L.L.Bean stores in Burlington, Dedham and Mansfield. Customers can also order by phone at 800-554-4072. Due to anticipated demand, sales will be limited to one per customer.
