L.L.Bean Honored with Governor’s Service Award for Corporate Volunteerism
Freeport, ME, May 12, 2008 – L.L.Bean was among several organizations recently recognized by Governor John Baldacci for exceptional contributions to Maine communities. Governor Baldacci and the Maine Commission for Community Service presented L.L.Bean with a Governor’s Service Award in the Corporate Volunteerism category during ceremonies on April 28. L.L.Bean was nominated by the United Way of Greater Portland for setting "the standard for others to follow in financial support, volunteerism and creating positive change."
The nomination cited L.L.Bean’s state leadership for funding in health and human services; employees' donation of time to conservation organizations, the United Way campaign, boards of directors for nonprofits and education; and support of cultural activities including the Bangor Folk Festival, the free L.L.Bean Summer Concert Series held each summer in L.L.Bean’s Discovery Park and Maine State Music Theatre.
“You know the enormous impact citizens can have on their communities when they give their time and talents,” said Governor Baldacci to the awardees. “During these challenging economic times, it’s even more important that there are caring individuals who are willing to give their time and efforts to help their neighbors. You get things done not once a year, but every day.”
George Kiesewetter, Vice President of Merchandising, accepted the award on L.L.Bean's behalf. George is the co-chair of this year’s United Way employee campaign.
