L.L.Bean Achieves Record Safety Year
L.L.Bean Recorded Its Safest Year Ever in 2008
According to the Total Case Incident Rate (TCIR) - a key measure which the Occupational Safety and Health Administration uses to track workplace injuries - every area of the company beat its goal for the year and beat the industry average as well.
TCIR is the generally accepted measure used to report workplace injuries across an industry or industry segment. It measures injuries that require more than simple first aid.
"It's an amazing accomplishment," says Manager of Safety, Nick Sampson. "L.L.Bean spans so many different industries - Facilities, Outlets, Retail, Customer Satisfaction, Manufacturing, Returns, Fulfillment and the office areas - and each has its own industry average. Each area of L.L.Bean not only beat its self-imposed safety goal, but the industry average as well."
"But, this accomplishment is not just about goals and rates," says Sampson. "It really means that fewer Bean employees got hurt last year than the year before."
