L.L.Bean to Produce Bean Boot Bottoms
March 5, 2007 - For the first time in the company's history, L.L.Bean’s popular L.L.Bean Boots, also known as Maine Hunting Shoes, will be completely made in Maine. Jack Samson, L.L.Bean Manufacturing senior manager announced plans today for the company to buy the molding equipment necessary for L.L.Bean to produce rubber soles.
"We are very excited to own and control all aspects of this heritage product," said Jack. "It feels right to be able to say that our boots are completely made in Maine."
Maine Hunting Shoe boot bottoms have been produced by a number of vendors over the years, most recently ACP of Arkansas.
Approximately 10 people will be hired and trained to run the new boot-bottom machines. L.L.Bean Manufacturing expects to begin production of the boot bottoms by fall.
