L.L.Bean Designers Accept Backpacker Magazine's Zero Impact Challenge
Freeport, ME, February 25, 2008—L.L.Bean backpack designers accepted Backpacker magazine's Zero Impact Challenge to create an environmentally friendly pack. The challenge entailed designing a pack using recycled materials and processes that contribute less greenhouse gas emissions than those produced by traditional backpacks. The result was the L.L.Bean Straight Jacket Pack. Although this product is only a prototype and not available for purchase, L.L.Bean designers plan to incorporate some of their ideas into future backpack designs, such as using lighter weight, recycled materials and reducing unnecessary components. You can read more about the challenge in Backpacker magazine's March 2008 issue.
