L.L.Bean Hunting & Fishing Store Receives High Marks for Earth Friendly Design

Freeport, ME, February 12, 2009— The L.L.Bean Hunting & Fishing Store has been recognized for its earth-friendly design by Chain Store Age, a retail industry trade journal.

The publication gives the store an honorable mention in the category of environmental sustainability in its annual listing of "Retail Stores of the Year."

"The design for L.L.Bean Hunting & Fishing was inspired by the retailer's longstanding commitment to the natural environment," according to the magazine. "Sustainability and sensitivity to the environment were key factors throughout the design and building process."

Chain Store Age praises the store for its use of recycled materials, the minimization of construction waste and emphasis on energy efficiency. The 33,000-square-foot store, which opened in November 2007, received LEED Silver certification from the United States Green Building Council.
