Outdoor retailer L.L.Bean announced today they have named Stephen Smith as President and CEO. Mr. Smith will replace Chris McCormick, who has served as President and CEO since 2001 and is retiring at the end of the fiscal year, in February 2016. He will be the fourth President in L.L.Bean history, and the first outsider to lead the company. He comes to L.L.Bean with an extensive background in the retail industry, experience that spans customer relationship management, strategy, brand development, marketing, and merchandising across all channels.

L.L.Bean is set to expand its retail operation with the opening of its first Rhode Island store, scheduled to open the summer of 2016. The new L.L.Bean store will be located at Garden City Center in Cranston, Rhode Island.

L.L.Bean is set to expand its retail operation with the opening of its third Ohio store, scheduled to open in fall of 2016. The new L.L.Bean store will be located at The Kenwood Collection, adjacent to the Kenwood Mall in Kenwood, Ohio, just outside of Cincinnati.

Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) has named the newest building on its Midcoast Campus in honor of major support to the campus by L.L.Bean, Inc. and Leon and Lisa Gorman. The building, known as the L.L.Bean Learning Commons and Health Science Center, is the new hub of the campus, serving as a one-stop academic and student support center.

Gorman was appointed President of L.L.Bean in 1967, following the death of his grandfather, Leon Leonwood Bean. He served in that capacity for over 35 years, and he and the people of L.L.Bean transformed the $2.25 million company into the $1.61 billion enterprise it is today. He was named Chairman of the Board in 2001 and Chairman Emeritus in 2013.
