L.L.Bean and National Park Foundation
Getting Kids Outdoors with a $1 Million Donation
Earlier this year, in celebration of our 100th anniversary, L.L.Bean launched the Million Moment Mission with a goal to donate up to $1 million to the National Park Foundation. By supporting the official charity of America's national parks, L.L.Bean is helping kids experience outdoor adventure and learn about our natural environment. Thanks to all of you who contributed by sharing your love of the outdoors.
You posted photos on Facebook, launched adventures with our Outdoor Discovery Schools courses, joined our Freeport Hometown Celebration, checked in on Foursquare from our stores and did so much more to support the mission. For every moment you shared, we've given a dollar to the National Park Foundation. Together, we've been able to bring young people into our parks and inspire a new generation to share our passion for the outdoors.
Grants from the National Park Foundation have already helped kids and teens across the country get outdoors and work with mentors. They've hiked in Wyoming's Grand Teton National Park, kayaked at Maryland's Assateague Island National Seashore, worked an archaeological dig on the Great Smoky Mountains – and that's just the start. Thanks to your help, this funding will continue to support more programs like these, opening the outdoors to some 60,000 underserved kids everywhere.
The National Park Foundation enriches America's national parks and programs through private support, safeguarding our heritage and inspiring generations to share our enthusiasm for our national parks. L.L.Bean continues its ongoing support of the National Park Foundation and innovative programs such as the propane-powered Island Explorer bus system in Acadia National Park.
